Salining is not the same as typing again

When you have five subjects and you want the same table on another sheet, you do not type Maths a second time. You copy.

Sheets can copy content (a number, text, a formula) and format (colour, bold). Today content. Format comes in Cell kid.

Shortcuts: Ctrl+C (copy), Ctrl+V (paste), Ctrl+X (cut). On a Mac Cmd instead of Ctrl. Right-click → Salin works too. In Excel on a computer the same shortcuts.

Salin of one cell

Open sheet Grades. In A7 type Physics. In B7 2.
Click A7. Ctrl+C. A dotted line blinks around the cell.
Click A8. Ctrl+V. In A8 is Physics.
Click B7. Ctrl+C. B8. Ctrl+V. In B8 is 2.

Check: A7 and A8 are two different cells. Both have text. B7 and B8 have a number on the right.

Salin of a whole block at once

Faster is to select an area and copy at once.

Select A2:B4 (click A2, Shift+click B4). A blue rectangle.
Ctrl+C. Click D2. Ctrl+V.
In D2:D4 and E2:E4 are copies of subjects and grades. The original in A:B stayed.

If only A2 copied, you selected one cell. Try again with Shift.

⚠️

Paste overwrites what was there. If D2 already had something, Ctrl+V deletes it. Ctrl+Z brings it back. In Excel and Sheets.

Cut = move

Ctrl+X cuts the content from a cell. You paste elsewhere — the original cell is empty.

Try: cut A8 Physics (Ctrl+X), paste into A9 (Ctrl+V). A8 empty, A9 Physics. If you did not want that, Ctrl+Z.

The square copies down

With formulas you drag the square. With text and numbers too — it copies the same value.

In C1 type Catatan. Drag the square to C3. Everywhere Catatan. That is not a series 1, 2, 3 — it is a copy. Series are Cell kid.

You copied at least two columns next to each other (A2:B4 → somewhere else) with one Ctrl+V.
You know the difference Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+X (move).
After paste the original still exists (with a copy, not with a cut).
Ctrl+Z undoes a mistake up to ten steps back.
The square from one cell with text copies the same text down.
