Sharing without fear
When you give the class the edit right, someone accidentally deletes =PRŮMĚR(B2:B6) and writes 2. Protect range locks formulas and leaves only grades in B2:B6 editable — or the other way the dashboard read-only.
The Workbook boss sets who may touch where.
Lock a formula, leave data
-
Sheet
Znamky. Select B8 (average). Right-click → Protect range. DescriptionAverage — do not change. Only you (or the teacher) can edit. -
Second protection: C2:C6 Status column with KDYŽ — a formula. B2:B6 leave for editing grades (when you share with a parent).
-
Sheet Dashboard — the whole sheet or C3:C5: View only for others. KPI = links, nobody overwrites to 5.0.
-
Try as a teammate to change B8 — it should reject (or warn). Changing B3 a grade goes through.
-
Exceptions: in the protection settings add a teammate’s email when they may fix formulas. The workbook owner always can.
Protection is not a secret — it is prevention of a mistake. In a comment at B8 write: “formula — ask to unlock”.
Sheet vs. range
- The whole Dashboard sheet — the class sees, does not touch.
- Kapesne!F1:F2 — model levers locked, C spending column open for writing.
- Pruzkum!D:E summary locked, column A import editable.
Excel: Review → Protect sheet with a password (write the password down with a parent).
What often goes wrong
Lock the whole workbook. You cannot write grades. You lock ranges.
Forget an exception for yourself. You yourself cannot fix — you are an exception as owner.
Protection instead of sharing view. A stranger cannot edit even by accident — the view right is the first choice.
🏫 Grade average — B8
B8 + C2:C6 protected. B2:B6 free for updating grades.
💰 Pocket money — F1 F2 vs C
Levers and formulas D,H,I protected. Actual spending C editable.
📊 Class survey — summary E
COUNTIF column E protected. Import A editable until clean-up.
🏆 Mini dashboard — the whole sheet
Dashboard protect all except owner. KPI only links.
Now you 💪
First: protection B8 and Dashboard C3:C5.
Second: a test with a teammate — what goes through, what does not.
Check: Formulas protected, data editable where it should be. You as owner can fix.
What to take from this lesson
- Range protection = fewer mistakes when sharing.
- Lock formulas, leave input data (or the other way the dashboard).
- The view right + protection = safer than edit for everyone.
