A gift vs. a wage

A gift has no bill. Work has an agreement.

A gift is a token with no right to a reward next time. A wage (even a small one) is a token for agreed work. Pocket money can be a gift (regular care) or a reward for a task. Mix the words up and you will be angry that “mum owes you”, even if she promised a gift, not a wage.

You are not an employee of the flat. Tidying can have a reward. It does not have to. A parent chooses. You may ask for a clear agreement: “Is this a gift, or for mowing?” Clarity saves shouting.

Vojta mows the grass. He expects 200 Kč, because an uncle once gave 200. Today he gets thanks and lemonade. Anger. Amálie asked beforehand: “Is there a reward for this?” No. She mowed anyway, or she did not. She had a choice. Vojta had a film from last time.

Birthday 500 Kč is a gift. It is not a wage for Vojta existing. He may spend it like pocket money — it is still a gift, not proof that he “already feeds the family”.

An agreement before the rake

A gift has no return, unless something else is broken (returning goods is another chapter). It is not polite to say “a bad gift, I wanted a code”. It is polite to thank and decide whether the gift enters the notebook as income. It does. It is income. Source: gift.

A reward for work: in advance how much, for what, when. After the work do not bargain the price. That is a market that spoils a family. If a parent forgets the promised 50, remind them in peace. It is not a rent bill. It is a promise.

A classmate pays you 20 for a task. That is already another agreement. Sekolah rules: somewhere a task for money is not allowed. Ask. And write 20 as income, not as “nothing, it was a laugh”. A laugh with coins is income.

Adults’ wages do not belong here. Their wage is not your ranking. Your 50 for babysitting is not their rent.

Amálie wants to shorten it to “it will be fine somehow”. Vojta asks what the lesson A gift vs. a wage is for, when a table can do a sum. A sum does not count respect, a PIN, a trap or an envelope. The core is: A gift is a gift. Work has a price agreed in advance. Rent does not come from that.

Uncle: “When you are big, you will be rich.” Vojta writes that as an advert sentence, not as a plan. The course lives in 50 and in a 500 gift, not in an empire.

Practice numbers, not a bank statement. Amálie has 80 Kč in the want envelope. Vojta pushes a step this lesson can name. When Amálie uses the core, either it waits for a parent, or it fits the envelope. If not, anger and a hole are left — proof of pressure, not that the lesson is pointless.

Why this right now

The account, the card and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Do not put pocket-money numbers on the network.

This is not the Sheets with Martin course. A table may help, but the mark of success is a decision, not SUM.

You will know this lesson by one sentence: A gift is a gift. Work has a price agreed in advance. Rent does not come from that. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have the core. The rest is practice, not magic.

Income in the notebook needs a source. A gift and a reward are two sources. A loan will be a third — and that one hurts. Clean names first.
