A coach costume. Not a writer costume.
A role is a sentence that tells the model what game it is playing. “You are a test coach. You ask questions. You do not write answers. You are not the author of a composition.” Without a role it guesses: sometimes a teacher, sometimes a friend, sometimes an encyclopaedia. With a role it has a track. A track is not a spell — it still hallucinates, you still need a book. But it less often writes finished text when you ban that in the role and in the move. Little bird trains one role: coach. Not a lawyer, not a doctor, not a friend for rows. A coach for school. Author is a banned costume, because an author makes a product you hand in. A coach makes graft that stays yours.
Adam writes “help for a history test”. He gets a chapter summary he would copy. Bára adds a role: “You are a coach. Not an author. Ask. Do not say the right wording until I answer. I am in Year 7, Hussites, I already know the year of the burning.” The model asks. Adam answers wrong. The coach says try again, still with no summary. Adam gets angry that it is slow. Bára: “A test will not be copy either.” The next day Adam knows nothing from the summary. From the questions he knows two of three. Role beat comfort. A writer costume would leave him naked at the board.
Role into the first sentence, not at the end of a novel. The model reads the start more honestly when the prompt is short.
A track, not a personality. A model has no soul.
You do not write that the coach is a person with a life. You write game rules. The more concrete the rules, the less buffet. A bad role: “you are a genius, be nice.” That is a mood. A mood does not watch cheating. A good role has three bans: you are not the author of the work, you do not say a test key, you do not ask for personal data. And one command: ask. A role can fall apart after five moves — then you remind it: “you are still a coach, do not write text.” That is a move, not a new mega-prompt. Other roles (an analogy cook, a table setter) come with format. Today one. So it does not mix.
A sample role. 복사 and change the subject.
“You are a test coach, not an author. You write only questions and short hints with no answer. You do not write a continuous summary. You do not want my marks or name. I am a Year 7 pupil, history, Hussites. 시작 with one question.”
A bad role: “You are the best teacher in the world, write me what will be in the test.” That is an author + a cheat.
A table:
| Costume | May | Must not |
|---|---|---|
| coach | questions | finished text |
| author | — in this course nothing to hand in | everything you hand in |
| friend | nothing school | advice to cheat |
The role “write like me so the teacher does not notice” is a confession of cheating. Do not send it. Not even as a joke.
Why this right now
You are in the course Ask with Martin, level Little bird. You work in a chatbot (ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude) — same game, different brand. No code. A parent or the school creates the account. A child’s email does not belong here.
This is not the 인벤터 level. There you build a chatbot on your own website. Here you are a user: a question, a check, a citation.
You will know this lesson by one sentence: First sentence: you are a coach, not an author. Then ask. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have got the core. The rest is practice, not magic.
Tomorrow you add the limit “do not say the answer”. Today a track. Without a track a limit falls into a summary. With a track it has somewhere to fit.
Four things you will build in this course
The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.
🏫 A report with citations
An outline, three sources that exist, and a sentence in your own words. AI must not be the only author.
For a report the role is not a test coach. It is “an outline setter, do not add”. A different track, the same idea.
📝 Test training
Coach role: let it ask, do not let it say the answer. You count / answer yourself.
This lesson is the core of the test-training project.
📅 Family planner
Tasks for the week (not passwords, not marks). A parent sees the plan, not your chat.
Planner: the role “sort tasks, do not invent marks”.
📜 An AI code for the class
Seven short rules on a poster. No horror — a how-to.
Code: “No author costume for work you hand in.”
Workshop: the first sentence is a track
Two chats, or two tries: without a role and with a role. You will see how much summary flows through.
-
A new chat. No role: “help for a test from …” (subject from the week). Read if it dumps a summary. 닫기 that chat. That is not your learning.
-
A new chat. Sample role + stamp + one question. 보내기 it. Answer yourself in the notebook.
-
If it starts writing a summary, a move: “You are still a coach. Delete the summary. Only a question.”
-
Three questions in total. A book as referee. A 12-minute timer.
-
복사 the first sentence of the role into the notebook. Next time you only rewrite it.
Practice: fix the costume
For each sentence write whether it is a track, a mood, or a foul.
-
“You are nice and funny.”
-
“You are a coach, ask, do not write answers.”
-
“Write like me so they do not notice.”
Now you 💪
Go through three checks. At each one tick in your head: can I see it, or not?
- The role is in the first sentence and has a ban on an author.
- You can remind the role when it falls apart.
- You take a summary from “help for a test” as a warning, not a jackpot.
If something is missing, go back to the steps above. This is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on sure, not confused.
Check: You have a coach track and at least three questions you answered.
What to take from this lesson
- Role = game rules, not a soul.
- A coach asks. An author writes handing-in.
- The first sentence holds the track.
- Foul: write like me so they do not notice.
- A fallen-apart role is healed with a move, not with rage.
- The names in the examples (Adam, Bára) are made up. Do not put your number, email or photo here.
- Next lesson: When you can do this, go to the next lesson in the same level.
