Three questions for one report

A report is born from questions, not from water

When you ask for a report, you get water: general sentences that would fit anything. When you ask for three questions, you get a skeleton you fill. A good question can be checked in a textbook. A bad question asks for an opinion, or an invented detail. Three are enough for a short school report. More is already a book. Less is one paragraph. Curious trains exactly three. You write answers in the notebook from a book, an atlas, notes. A chatbot suggests questions. You can cross them out when they are silly. Only then in the next lesson notes — not copy. Only in the project an outline. Today only questions and your answers. That is an honest start of work a teacher wants from you.

Bára has a report about the Vltava. She tries “write a report”. Water. Ema: “Ask for three questions you can find in geography and an atlas.” They come: where it flows, which is the longest, which cities. Bára crosses one out because it is too quiz-like, and asks for a question “why people built dams” — but then she must watch it does not slide into invented dates. She answers from a map and a chapter. She has three paragraphs in her head, she does not write them fair yet. Later a teacher will notice Bára saw a map. The neighbour’s water did not see a map. Questions won.

A question you can find vs. a question for impression

Find: length, a tributary, a capital, a year from a table, a name from a reader. Impression: “how people felt”, “the secret of the river”, “according to a study”. Impression tempts a hallucination. In Curious take short factual questions. You add an opinion later and mark it as an opinion, not as a source. Three questions also block copy: it is not so easy to paste a finished report when you have to answer A, B, C from a map. It is slow. A report should be slow. Fast water is a mark that someone else did the work.

A sample prompt.

“Year 6, geography, the Vltava. I already know it is in Czechia. Give me three questions for a report that can be answered from a textbook and an atlas. No finished text. No invented studies. If a question cannot be checked in a book, do not suggest it.”

An example of good questions:

1. Where does the Vltava flow into?
2. Which three cities lie on the Vltava? (I will check in an atlas)
3. What is a dam for according to the textbook?

An example of bad ones:

1. What quote did a professor say about the Vltava in 1972?
2. Write two pages lyrically.

Why this right now

You are in the course Ask with Martin, level Curious. You work in a chatbot (ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude) — same game, different brand. No code. A parent or the school creates the account. A child’s email does not belong here.

This is not the 인벤터 level. There you build a chatbot on your own website. Here you are a user: a question, a check, a citation.

You will know this lesson by one sentence: Three checkable questions hold a report. Water drowns it. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have got the core. The rest is practice, not magic.

Tomorrow notes, not copy. Without questions you have nothing to note, and you slide back to a paragraph from the window. Today a skeleton. Tomorrow bones. The day after the meat of an outline.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.

Workshop: three questions and three answers from a book

You pick a topic you really have or could have. Chat only questions. 메모book and book answers.

1. Pick a topic from a textbook (a river, an author, an animal, an event). 보내기 the sample prompt for three questions. No extra text.

2. Rewrite the questions into the notebook. By each write on which page / map you will check it. If you do not know where, return the question: “swap question 2 for one that is in chapter X.”

3. 닫기 the chat. Open a book. Answer all three. Short. In your own words.

4. When you have answers, you may open the chat and say: “Ask me a fourth question for an analogy, not a new fact.” Do not mix the analogy into facts.

5. 닫기. You have a report skeleton without a single paragraph from the model. That is today’s product.

Practice: swap a bad question

For each bad one suggest a better one you can find in a book.

1. “How did Charles IV feel one night?”

2. “What 2019 study proves it?” (with no study in your hand)

3. “Write a lyrical intro about a river.” (that is not a question — convert it)

Go through three checks. At each one tick in your head: can I see it, or not?

1. You can point at three questions with a finger in a book or an atlas.
2. You did not take answers from the chat.
3. You recognise a question for impression vs. for a fact.

If something is missing, go back to the steps above. This is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on sure, not confused.
