Cyberbullying — do not hide it

Save proof, do not argue, tell an adult.

Three steps, in this order

Someone writes nastily to you. They kicked you out of a group. A photo is going around. Your stomach feels bad. In that moment the head wants either revenge, or to delete it and pretend nothing. Neither as the first thing.

The order is:

  1. Screenshot — even a voice note, even a story, even a group they kicked you from. The date should be visible. The account name should be visible. Even if it makes you want to throw up. Proof is for an adult, not for a group.
  2. Do not argue — another joke feeds it. Another insult gives the other side fuel. Block / leave the group once you have proof. Not earlier, so it does not vanish without a trace. Not later, so you do not sit with it all night.
  3. Tell an adult — a teacher, a parent, after-school club, a coach. “It is only the internet” does not hold when you are afraid to go to school. It is not snitching. You are asking for protection.

학교 has a duty to deal with it, even if it happened in the evening on a phone. Even if it was at the weekend. Even if it “was only in chat”. A class chat is still class.

You are not a snitch. A snitch wants to hurt someone. You want it to stop. That is a difference you may say out loud.

💡

If it is awkward to say it out loud: show a screenshot and go. Put the phone on the table. Say “this”. Or 116 111. You do not have to have “enough proof”. It is enough that it is happening. The line is free, quiet, without you first confessing to the headteacher.

What it is (and what it is not)

Cyberbullying is hurting through messages, groups, photos, being left out, “just a joke”. It often repeats. One nasty sentence hurts too — you can report that as well. When it repeats, even more so.

Examples, so it is not fog:

It is not cyberbullying when you fall out once about a game and the next day it is calm. A fight may hurt too. If after it fear of school stays, still say it. An adult will help sort it.

It is not your fault that you have a phone. It is not your fault that you are “sensitive”. The solution is not “so switch it off and be quiet”. Switching off a phone does not hide a group that meets at school.

If you do it to someone else — even “for a laugh” — stop. Delete it. Say sorry to them, not only to the class. Tell an adult too before it bursts worse. That is courage, not weakness.

How to save proof without sending it around

Proof is for parents and a teacher. It is not a chain mail “look what they wrote”.

  1. Take a screenshot. On iPhone: the side button + volume up (or according to the model). On Android: usually the side + volume down. Time and name should be visible.

  2. If it is possible, save a link to the message / account ID too. Do not write it into the class group. 보내기 it to one adult, or show it from the phone.

  3. Once you have the picture, you can block and leave the group. In the app: the person’s profile → block. The group → leave. You do not have to write “I am leaving because…”.

  4. Tell an adult. If the first one does not listen, tell a second. A teacher, a parent, 116 111. One is enough for it to start.

We do not teach here how to “get” someone. Reporting with the report button in the app is fine. Revenge, a fake account on them, sending their photo around — that is another injury. Do not do that.

⚠️

If someone threatens a meeting, violence, or sending nude photos, do not deal with it on your own at night. An adult immediately. 116 111, if an adult is not there. It is not “I am exaggerating”. It is protection.

What to say out loud

To a parent:

“I need you to see this. I do not want you to call that boy’s parents immediately. Look first. I feel bad from it. I want it to stop.”

To a teacher:

“It happened on a phone, but I am afraid to go to school. I have a screenshot. I do not want a show in front of the class. I want help.”

To a friend who sees it and stays silent:

“If you see it again, do not like it. Tell me. Or tell a teacher. Staying silent with it hurts too.”

To yourself, when it is night:

“Now a screenshot. Tomorrow an adult. I do not have to answer now.”

If the words will not come out of your mouth, 116 111. Say: someone is writing nastily to me and I am afraid to say it at home. They know what next. You do not have to know paragraphs.

Campaign for the class

Three steps belong on a poster. Big letters. No horror pictures. No photos of crying children. With a method:

Screenshot. Do not argue. Tell an adult. 116 111.

That is a piece of the project campaign. Not “hackers will eat you”. An order that fits on a door.

Now you 💪

Put these three steps into the campaign for the class in big letters. No horror pictures. With a method.

Say one sentence from the role-play to a parent or a sibling. Practise it in calm. When it is needed, the head is full and the sentence already has a path.

Check: You know the order: proof, no fight, an adult. You know 116 111 exists. You know school deals with it even from an evening chat.
