Alt text in one sentence (text when you cannot see the picture)

When the projector shows a smear, alt text still says what should have been there.

You already know where from. Today you describe a picture in words. Alt text is a sentence for a picture: what is in the picture and why it is there. It is not “picture1.jpg”. It is not a paragraph. One sentence.

Imagine empty alt, or a file name IMG_404. The projector glitches to a smear. Nobody knows what it is meant to be. If you write “A flower with pollen — a bee carries pollen, not a pot of honey,” the sentence holds even without the picture.

학교 teaches respect. Even if the class can see, you can describe proof in words. That is a bridge to a source credit. Into alt text do not belong an email, a classmate’s name without a reason, or a joke that puts someone down. Alt may be read out loud. Click the picture, open Alt text, delete IMG_. Write what and why. One sentence. A parent’s account. 학교 teaches respect. Even if the class can see, you can describe proof in words.

Ema left empty alt, or a file name IMG_404. The projector showed a smear. Nobody knew what it was meant to be. Adam wrote “A flower with pollen — a bee carries pollen, not a pot of honey.” A sentence. Proof. Respect. In the evening Ema added alt. She said the file had a nice name on the phone. On the wall it helped nobody. Today you write a sentence that can carry a picture even when you cannot see it. She added alt with a sentence about pollen. She deleted IMG_404 in the field. Mum held the account. The pollen sentence sat on the title. The projector could glitch.

One sentence: what is in the picture and why it is there

Click the picture. In Slides Format options or Alt text (sometimes three dots by the picture → Alt text). Delete IMG_ and write one sentence: what + why. Not decoration “a nice photo”.

Read alt out loud. Does it sit on the slide title? No? Rewrite. Yes? Next picture. A gallery with no alt is unfinished.

Alt is not a paragraph. It is not an email. It is not a joke that puts someone down. Alt may be read out loud by a reader or a teacher when the picture falls.

Respect is not decoration. It is craft: you can say proof in words even when eyes cannot see the picture. Read alt out loud. Does it sit on the title? No? Rewrite. A gallery with no alt is unfinished. No email in the field. Alt is not a paragraph. It is not a joke that puts someone down. Read it out loud to a parent. Format options, Alt text. One sentence what plus why. Save.

Wrong: an empty field, IMG_404, “photo”, “bee lol”. Nobody knows what it proves.

Right: Adam’s sentence about pollen. Ema after the fix: “A column chart, 8 votes roll, 5 apple, an anonymous poll.” It sits on the title.

An example from a hobby: not “bike.jpg”. Yes: “A chain in mud — without maintenance a bike does not go.” The same picture, different honesty. At a chart alt says what the columns mean. Not a photo. One sentence can carry a reader and a smear on the projector. “A nice photo” is not enough. You must be able to say what the picture proves. Not picture1.jpg. Yes: a flower with pollen, proof of pollination.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

Write alt in one sentence

You click the picture. You open Alt text. You delete IMG_. You write what + why. You read it out loud.

1. Click the picture. Open Alt text. Delete IMG_ and write one sentence what + why. A parent’s account. No email.

2. Read alt out loud. Does it sit on the slide title? No? Rewrite. Yes? Next picture. A gallery with no alt is unfinished.

3. In PowerPoint almost the same: right-click the picture → Edit alt text. The same sentence. No paragraph.

4. Present (F5) does not show alt now. Even so you need it when the picture falls or a reader reads. Drive a tick.

5. The workshop ends when every picture has a sentence, not a file name. Empty alt is unfinished.

IMG_ off

A file name from the phone is not a description. A sentence is.

1. Find alt that is IMG_ or empty. Rewrite it as a sentence.

2. Read alt to a parent. Does it sit on the title? If not, fix.

3. Delete from alt an email and a joke that would be awkward out loud.
