“According to a study” with no study

A phrase that sounds scientific. With no study in your hand it is a lab costume.

A lab for show. An empty cellar.

“According to a study” is a spell. People go quiet behind it, as if a white coat walked in. A model likes to dump it: a year, a university, a percent. Often the study is not there, or it is about something else, or it is from a blog. A detective hears the spell as an alarm. An alarm means: show the study, or cross out the sentence. In lower years you almost never need a study in a report about a river. You need a textbook. The spell is pointless theatre. If you leave it, a teacher may want a link. You do not have it. Embarrassment. If you cross it out, an honest fact from a book remains. A detective loves a cross-out by a coat. A coat with no lab is carnival.

Bára has the sentence “a 2019 study proves that children who read about the Vltava are kinder”. Adam laughs. They look. Nothing. The percent 73% sounds precise. Precision is a mask. They cross it out. They leave: a textbook about dams. Bára gets why a percent with no source is the same family as a fake ISBN. She wanted a coat so the work looked older. A teacher wants a fit for the year. A coat would give chat away more than a simple truth. Carnival gives it away. A simple book protects.

💡

If you hear study, percent, university, “experts claim” — look for the thing, or cross out. Three spells, one alarm.

A fit for the year and a carnival of authority

Year 6 does not cite a science journal it does not open. When it opens one with a parent and gets one sentence, ok — but then you can see it. Carnival is when the journal is not there. A detective asks: do I need a coat for this task? Often not. A fact from an atlas is enough. A spell adds a risk of a fake with no mark gain. With health and politics (next lesson) carnival is even more dangerous. Today a river and a kindness percent are enough. Tomorrow a stop at advice that does not belong in chat. The alarm is the same. Only louder.

Alarm words: study, research, percent, experts, university, “proven”.

A test:

  1. Do I have the study open?
  2. Is it about what I claim?
  3. Do I need it for my year?

No, no, no → cross out. Yes, yes, a fit → a seen citation.

A sentence swap: Before: “A 2019 study proves the Vltava is important.” After: “The textbook on p. 41 ranks the Vltava among the main rivers of Czechia.”

⚠️

Do not stack a fake study “in the style” so it looks. That is already an active lie, not a copying mistake.

Why this right now

You are in the course Ask with Martin, level Detective. You work in a chatbot (ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude) — same game, different brand. No code. A parent or the school creates the account. A child’s email does not belong here.

This is not the 发明家 level. There you build a chatbot on your own website. Here you are a user: a question, a check, a citation.

You will know this lesson by one sentence: “According to a study” counts only with a study in your hand. Otherwise it is carnival. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have got the core. The rest is practice, not magic.

Tomorrow politics and health — there carnival can hurt. Today you notice it on a harmless river. The alarm reflex must sit before it is about a body and votes.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.

🏫 A report with citations

An outline, three sources that exist, and a sentence in your own words. AI must not be the only author.

In a report a study only when you open it and a teacher wants it. Otherwise a book.

📝 Test training

Coach role: let it ask, do not let it say the answer. You count / answer yourself.

A coach should not dump percents of class success.

📅 Family planner

Tasks for the week (not passwords, not marks). A parent sees the plan, not your chat.

Planner: “a study says to learn at night” — cross out, sleep according to a parent.

📜 An AI code for the class

Seven short rules on a poster. No horror — a how-to.

Code: “No coat with no lab.”

Workshop: an alarm and a swap

You ask for five sentences. You count spells. Each you either open (rarely), or swap for a sentence from a textbook.

  1. M1 five sentences about the work. Underline alarm words.

  2. For each: I open / I cross out. At school almost always you cross out and take a book.

  3. Write swaps from the chapter. In your own words.

  4. M2: “no studies, no percents, only what is in a Year 6 textbook.” Compare the calm of the answer.

  5. In the notebook a list of alarm words. On the Detective fridge.

Practice: a coat, or a book

Rephrase with no spell.

  1. “Experts claim photosynthesis is important.”

  2. “73.4% of pupils can do this according to research.”

  3. “A university in Brno in 2018 proved that our village…”

Now you 💪

Go through three checks. At each one tick in your head: can I see it, or not?

  1. You hear an alarm at study/percent/experts.
  2. You can do a swap from a textbook.
  3. You do not want to stack a fake study.

If something is missing, go back to the steps above. This is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on sure, not confused.

Check: You crossed out spells and swapped them for a sentence the year and a book can carry.
