Back only with rules, not with anger
A return is a second agreement: the shop takes the thing, you the tokens. It is not magic after every mood. A deadline holds, a receipt, that the thing is not wrecked, and that the law and the shop have exceptions (food, made-to-order, digital content).
A shopper knows that “I’ll unwrap and always return” is a plan that can fail. Better a decision before the till.
Adam buys a hoodie. It does not fit. Mum goes with a receipt within 14 days. It works. Ema buys a skin. She wants to return it. The game shop: mostly no. Digital. Ema cries at pressure. The course: before the click know that back is not there.
Food from a machine properly leaks. A complaint at once, with an adult. That is not a whim. That is a faulty thing.
Before a purchase: will it go back? If not (a game, a finale discount, food), decide more strictly. A receipt into a pocket, not into the bin by the till.
A deadline, paper, an exception
A warranty (a faulty thing) and a return (I changed my mind) are not the same. A warranty is that it should work. A return from a change of mind is extra, often a deadline in a web shop, in a high-street shop by the rules.
A child often does not sort the counter alone. A parent. You carry a receipt and the truth: when, for how much, what is wrong. Do not lie that it was broken when you changed your mind. A lie spoils next time.
A game purchase and a loot box: assume no. A subscription: cancel in advance, not “return a month”. Food and drink: at once, when there is a fault.
Pressure “return it, or you are not a friend” by a gift: a gift is returned another way. Respect for the giver. A parent.
Ema wants to shorten it to “it will be fine somehow”. Adam asks what the lesson Returning goods is for, when a table can do a sum. A sum does not count respect, a PIN, a trap or an envelope. The core is: A return has a deadline and a receipt. Digital and a mood often not.
Adults pay the rent. The card, the account and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Pocket-money numbers do not belong on the network. If you break these rules in the lesson “Returning goods”, you know a word, not the course.
A hoodie 300, a receipt, 3 days, the tag on. A parent + the shop. A path exists. A skin 199, 3 days, a screenshot. A path often not. Adam learns: the same mood, different rules.
A machine 25, a drink with no bubbles, at once with a teacher. Not in a week.
Practice numbers, not a bank statement. Ema has 80 Kč in the want envelope. Adam pushes a step this lesson can name. When Ema uses the core, either it waits for a parent, or it fits the envelope. If not, anger and a hole are left — proof of pressure, not that the lesson is pointless.
A return to someone else’s account, “send the goods here, money will come” from chat — a fake shop. Only the shop where you bought, and a parent.
Why this right now
You are in the course Money with Martin, level Shopper. You can write numbers in a notebook or a table, but the topic is money and decisions, not Excel formulas. The account, the card and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Do not put pocket-money numbers on the network.
This is not the Sheets with Martin course. A table may help, but the mark of success is a decision, not SUM.
You will know this lesson by one sentence: A return has a deadline and a receipt. Digital and a mood often not. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have the core. The rest is practice, not magic.
A receipt and a warranty in the next lesson hold the paper. First know that back is not automatic. Otherwise Shopper buys as if into a warehouse.
If you skip this, the next lesson in level Shopper will stand on fog. Three piles exist. A receipt has a place. A skin is not a hoodie. It is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so “Returning goods” is not only a heading.
Four things you will build from the course
The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.
🪙 Pocket money
A 14-day record: income, spending, balance. What you do not write down is as if you did not spend it — and that is a lie.
Pocket money: after a return, spending becomes income “returned”. Write both.
🚌 Class trip
A budget, a reserve, a plan B. A shared till has rules.
A trip: a souvenir returns badly from another city. Buy what you can carry.
🎮 Game shop
V-bucks and a loot box are a purchase. A subscription keeps going.
A game: assume a skin does not go back.
🧾 Stall / mini-company
Cost, price, profit. Three numbers for the class.
A stall: write your lemonade return rule on a sign (a fault yes, a change of mind no).
Workshop: three piles of returns
On paper: surely / maybe / rather not. Match a hoodie, a skin, a baguette.
-
Three things into three piles. Why a skin rather not?
-
Where does a receipt live 14 days? A pencil case, an envelope, a parent.
-
A sentence for a parent: “Changed my mind, not broken” — the truth.
-
No returns through someone else’s account from chat.
You count with piles. Anger at the till with no paper returns nothing. Paper with no truth spoils trust.
Pocket money: Pocket money: after a return, spending becomes income “returned”. Write both. Do not write someone else’s amount, a PIN, an IBAN or “how much a classmate gets” next to it. A rule and a practice number are enough — or an honest zero.
Class trip: A trip: a souvenir returns badly from another city. Buy what you can carry. Do not write someone else’s amount, a PIN, an IBAN or “how much a classmate gets” next to it. A rule and a practice number are enough — or an honest zero.
Game shop: A game: assume a skin does not go back. Do not write someone else’s amount, a PIN, an IBAN or “how much a classmate gets” next to it. A rule and a practice number are enough — or an honest zero.
Practice: back, or not?
Match them.
-
A hoodie, a tag, a receipt, 5 days. Who goes to the counter?
-
A skin yesterday. Why rather not?
-
A baguette leaks at once. What is that, if not a change of mind?
-
Chat: send the goods elsewhere. Why not?
Now you 💪
Go through three checks. By each one, tick in your head: do I see it, or not?
- I tell a fault from a change of mind.
- I take digital as hard to return.
- I do not leave a receipt at the till out of habit.
If something is missing, go back to the steps above. It is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on with certainty, not with a mess.
Check: Three piles exist. A receipt has a place. A skin is not a hoodie.
What to take from this lesson
- A return is not automatic.
- Truth > an excuse of a fault.
- Digital mostly does not go back.
- Someone else’s account from chat is a trap.
- 姓名s in the examples (Ema, Adam) are made up. Do not put your number, email or photo here.
- Next lesson: When you can do this, go to the next lesson in the same level.
