Slide order

开始 at the top, proofs, close at the bottom. Dragging on the left is directing.

You can duplicate. Today you line up order. An outline lives in the order of thumbnails. 开始 at the top, proofs, close at the bottom.

If the close is second, the class gets the end in the middle and then a pile of middle again. The teacher asks “are you finishing already?” and you are only starting.

Dragging on the left is craft. It is not lesser work. It is directing. Grab a thumbnail, drag. Present (F5) from the start. Say out loud start, proof, close, when a slide changes part. If you cannot say it, the order lies.

Do not assemble order by which slide is prettier. Pretty into the middle, when a proof belongs there. Not at the start as an advert. Put paper from the first lesson next to the thumbnails. They must sit. A parent or the school holds the account. No child’s email. Paper from the outline next to thumbnails. 关闭 down. Proofs together. Thumbnails are directing.

Sofie left a question on slide 2 and the main sentence on slide 8. The teacher asked in the middle “are you finishing already?” and she was only starting. Filip dragged the close down, proofs together, title first. He deleted a Thanks slide. He said thanks out loud. The presentation went like a film of titles. An arc. The bell at the close, not at chapter 2. In the evening Sofie matched thumbnails to paper from the first lesson. The paper said start–proofs–close. The thumbnails lied. Dragging fixed it. New filler not. He deleted a Thanks slide. He said thanks out loud at the close. A film of titles went from the start.

Thumbnails on the left are directing, not a delay

Grab a thumbnail, drag. On the left count. Say which is the start, which proofs, which close. If the close is not at the bottom, grab it and drag it down.

Put proofs one after another, not interleaved with a joke and thanks. Thanks is not a slide. Thanks out loud at the end.

Present (F5) from the title with the arrow. Count the parts of the arc. A hole? Move a thumbnail. Do not write new filler. The outline did not want filler.

A pretty slide does not belong at the start only because it is pretty. It belongs where its idea is. Directing is an order of ideas. It is not a hit parade of looks. Say out loud at each thumbnail: start, proof, close. If it does not sit at slides 3 and 7, drag. Thanks is not a slide. Thanks out loud. Paper from the first lesson must sit on thumbnails on the left. 关闭 down. Proofs one after another. Pretty into the middle only when a proof belongs there.

Wrong: title, a joke, close, proof, a question, proof, thanks, one more interesting bit. The film jumps. The teacher loses direction — you do not have it lined up on the wall.

Right: Filip. Title. Why now. Three proofs one after another. An objection. 关闭. A question. A film of titles. Sofie after dragging the same.

An example from a survey: a question first, a chart in the middle, what the number means only after the chart, not before it. Order is proof. Not chance. The same in a report: three proofs one after another, not interleaved with a joke. The bell meets the close, not a joke in the middle. A question at the end, not on slide 2.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

Drag thumbnails by the paper

Paper from the first lesson next to the screen. Thumbnails must say the same order. 关闭 down. Proofs together.

1. Open the file. On the left count thumbnails. Say which is the start, which proofs, which close. If the close is not at the bottom, grab it and drag it down. An adult account.

2. Put proofs one after another, not interleaved with a joke and thanks. Delete a Thanks slide. Thanks out loud at the end. Match paper from the first lesson with the left. They must sit.

3. In PowerPoint almost the same: drag on the left, or View → Slide sorter. Present (F5) from the title with the arrow. Count the parts of the arc. A hole? Move a thumbnail, do not write new filler.

4. Say out loud at each slide: start, proof, close. If at slide 3 you say close and at 7 start again, the order lies. Drag. Saving watches on its own.

5. The workshop ends with a film of titles that goes from start to close. Thumbnails on the left sit on paper. No pretty slide at the top only because it is pretty.

The close is not second

A close in the middle confuses. The class thinks you are finishing. Move it down.

1. Find the close slide. Is it at the bottom? If not, drag.

2. Delete a Thanks slide if it is there. You will say thanks.

3. Present (F5) from the start. Say the arc. If it jumps, drag more.
