Interest: a loan hurts

You give back more than you got. For children a loan with no interest hurts too — by friendship.

A loan hurts. Interest is the name of that pain in crowns.

Interest in one sentence: for borrowed tokens you give back more. A bank has it in a number. A friend has it in awkwardness. Both hurt. Banker teaches why “take it now, it is small” can grow.

You do not take a mortgage. You learn not to want debt for a skin. You do not wreck a parent’s account with game instalments.

An ad: 1000 now, you give back 1300. Matyáš: “300 is little for now.” Sofie: 300 is three juices for weeks. And he did not have 1000. Now he has debt. A friend: 200 by Friday, with no interest. Friday nothing. Interest 0 Kč, a tax on friendship.

💡

A question: how much do I give back in total and when? When it is “we will see”, it is a trap or chaos. Both no.

More back, or a relationship

APR and rates leave for school in one sentence: there is a number that shows how expensive a loan is. You count: got 100, gives back 120. 20 hurts.

Instalments reach into future envelopes. A 3-month goal dies. That is why Planner before Banker.

Microloans in a phone, “buy on instalments” a skin, crypto loans — no. Age, the law, a trap. A parent.

A loan from a friend: interest 0 and still the M pile to give back first. You already can.

Sofie wants to shorten it to “it will be fine somehow”. Matyáš asks what the lesson Interest: a loan hurts is for, when a table can do a sum. A sum does not count respect, a PIN, a trap or an envelope. The core is: A loan: you give back more or a relationship. Both paths reach into future envelopes.

Adults pay the rent. The card, the account and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Pocket-money numbers do not belong on the network. If you break these rules in the lesson “Interest: a loan hurts”, you know a word, not the course.

100 → 120 in a month. 20 is interest. Sofie. Matyáš 1000 → 1300 “sometime”. Sometime is a dangerous date.

Instalments 50 × 12 = 600 for a thing for 400. 200 interest + fees. The thing cost 600. Shopper would ask for the base.

Practice numbers, not a bank statement. Sofie has 80 Kč in the want envelope. Matyáš pushes a step this lesson can name. When Sofie uses the core, either it waits for a parent, or it fits the envelope. If not, anger and a hole are left — proof of pressure, not that the lesson is pointless.

⚠️

Who lends against a password, a card, a photo — usury and a trap. Not interest. Stop. An adult.

Why this right now

You are in the course Money with Martin, level Banker. You can write numbers in a notebook or a table, but the topic is money and decisions, not Excel formulas. The account, the card and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Do not put pocket-money numbers on the network.

This is not the Sheets with Martin course. A table may help, but the mark of success is a decision, not SUM.

You will know this lesson by one sentence: A loan: you give back more or a relationship. Both paths reach into future envelopes. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have the core. The rest is practice, not magic.

Saving is the opposite direction. First the pain of debt. Then calm when tokens lie. So they are not mixed up.

If you skip this, the next lesson in level Banker will stand on fog. You can do 100 and 120. 20 has a name. A skin on instalments has a no. It is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so “Interest: a loan hurts” is not only a heading.

Four things you will build from the course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.

🪙 Pocket money

A 14-day record: income, spending, balance. What you do not write down is as if you did not spend it — and that is a lie.

Pocket money: a debt 20 give back before juice. Interest 0, pain yes.

🚌 Class trip

A budget, a reserve, a plan B. A shared till has rules.

A trip: the till on instalments from strangers no.

🎮 Game shop

V-bucks and a loot box are a purchase. A subscription keeps going.

A game: buy now pay later on a gem. No.

🧾 Stall / mini-company

Cost, price, profit. Three numbers for the class.

A stall: do not sell on debt with no rule. Interest no, debtors yes — it hurts.

Workshop: 100 and 120

Count the difference. Write which future envelope dies.

  1. 100 vs 120. 20 is what?

  2. When to give back? With no date = chaos.

  3. A sentence no on instalments in a game.

  4. A loan vs. a password: why that is not interest, but a trap.

You count with a difference 20. A small number teaches. A big mortgage is not your task. A big no on a skin on instalments yes.

Pocket money: Pocket money: a debt 20 give back before juice. Interest 0, pain yes. Do not write someone else’s amount, a PIN, an IBAN or “how much a classmate gets” next to it. A rule and a practice number are enough — or an honest zero.

Class trip: A trip: the till on instalments from strangers no. Do not write someone else’s amount, a PIN, an IBAN or “how much a classmate gets” next to it. A rule and a practice number are enough — or an honest zero.

What to tell a parent with no wage and no account number: “Today I went through interest: a loan hurts — A loan: you give back more or a relationship. Both paths reach into future envelopes.” If they have no time, a slip in the notebook is enough. Stories and class chat are not enough.

Practice: how much does it hurt?

Count. Decide.

  1. 100→120. Interest?

  2. 50×12 for a thing 400. What is 600?

  3. 200 from a friend, interest 0, does not give back. What hurts?

  4. Instalments for a gem. Why not?

Now you 💪

Go through three checks. By each one, tick in your head: do I see it, or not?

  1. Interest = you give back more.
  2. A date of giving back must be.
  3. Instalments in a game no.

If something is missing, go back to the steps above. It is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on with certainty, not with a mess.

Check: You can do 100 and 120. 20 has a name. A skin on instalments has a no.
