Public Wi-Fi is not home
Public Wi-Fi — a café, a shopping centre, a library, a bus — is a network lots of strangers connect to. Someone can listen to what you send when a page does not use HTTPS (a lock in the address bar).
At home you have Wi-Fi a parent knows. At school a teacher has a filter. On a public network nobody watches who sits next to you.
The rule: do not do sensitive things on public Wi-Fi. Sign-in to a parent’s bank, a purchase, sending passwords. Browsing news and videos — with care. Better mobile data or a VPN from a parent, when something important.
A lock in the address bar (HTTPS) means the path between you and the page is encrypted. Without a lock — better not on public Wi-Fi. If the browser warns “not a secure connection”, listen.
What to do on public Wi-Fi

Do not connect automatically. Switch off “ask to join networks” and “auto-join” to unknown networks.
iPhone: Settings → Wi-Fi → switch off Ask to Gabung Networks for stranger networks.
Android: Settings → Wi-Fi → Advanced → switch off auto-join to open networks, if it is possible.

When you connect: do not do purchases, do not send passwords, do not sign out of everything at once. Browsing OK. Sensitive — at home or mobile data.

After leaving: Forget This Network (iPhone: by the network → Forget. Android: long press → Forget).

Into the phone audit: Public Wi-Fi — rule: no sensitive things. VPN from a parent: yes/no.
A fake Wi-Fi “FREE_WIFI” without a password can be a trap. If a network has no password and offers itself, be careful. Ask staff for the right network name.
What to say at home
To a parent:
“In the course we dealt with public Wi-Fi. I want to know our rule: what I may on Wi-Fi in a café, what not. And if we have a VPN.”
Into family rules: Public Wi-Fi — no banks, purchases, passwords. Sensitive at home or mobile data.
Public Wi-Fi is not a place to “try” whether someone is listening. It is not a hacker game. It is a practical rule: no sensitive things.
What does not belong here
We do not connect to a neighbour’s network “for a laugh”. We do not try to listen to others. Shadow watches your trail on the network, not an attack on someone else.

With a parent, agree one sentence of a rule for public Wi-Fi. Write it into the audit and onto family rules.
