You are not a hero in chat
When you see something nasty happening to a classmate online, the first reflex is often: write into the group “leave them”. Or immediately attack the attacker. Both often feed the fire.
You are not a lawyer or the police in chat. You are a bridge to an adult. Three steps stay:
- Screenshot — save proof for the classmate, not for a meme. Ask them if they want help.
- Do not argue — another insult gives fuel. Do not add a thread “look what they are doing”.
- An adult — a teacher, their parent or yours. “[이름] is getting [X]. We have a screenshot. What should we do?”
If a classmate does not want help, respect it. You can tell a parent or a teacher in general, without names — according to how serious it is. If there is danger, an adult must know.
Between four eyes: “I saw what they write to you. Do you want me to go with you to a teacher? You do not have to write anything into the group.” That is help. A megaphone in chat is not.
What helps and what does not
Helps:
- being next to them when they go to a teacher
- not forwarding insults on
- saying “that is not OK” calmly, not in a crowd
- 116 111, when they are afraid to say it out loud
Does not help:
- a public fight with the attacker in class chat
- “delete it or I will show yours”
- a screenshot of their embarrassment into another group
-
Practise a sentence for a classmate: I saw it. Do you want to go with me to a teacher?
-
Practise a sentence for a teacher: [이름] is getting [briefly] online. We have a screenshot. What next?
-
Write into the safer profile or a notebook: Help a classmate = a bridge, not a hero in chat.
What to say at home
To a parent:
“When I see cyberbullying with a classmate, I will not add fuel. I will go to a teacher or I will tell you. Do you know?”
To a classmate:
“You do not have to be on your own with this. We can go to the teacher. We do not have to write it into chat.”
Do not use someone else’s cyberbullying as a reason for revenge. It is not “now we will show them”. It is stop. If you do something similar “for a laugh”, stop — say sorry to them, not only to the class.
Now you 💪
Practise both sentences out loud — to a classmate and a teacher. With a parent or a mirror. Awkward is fine.
Write: When I see bullying, the first step is [screenshot / go to them / a teacher].
Check: You know help = a bridge to an adult. You do not add fuel in chat. You have a sentence for a classmate and a teacher.
What to take from this lesson
- Help a classmate ≠ a hero in chat.
- A screenshot for an adult. Do not argue.
- A sentence between four eyes. Go to a teacher together.
- 116 111, when they are afraid.
