Bullets: max 5, max 7 words

If a bullet looks like a paragraph, the class reads again.

The title is already a sentence. Today under it you put bullets. A bullet is not a paragraph with a dot. It is an anchor you can read from the back in one look.

Imagine a slide about a wagon fort. If under the title hang eight lines of twelve words from a textbook, the teacher asks you to read. You read. The back row sleeps. If you leave three bullets of five words, the title carries the meaning. The bullets only anchor. The class listens until you speak, because there is nothing left to read.

The rule is hard, because a soft one always swells. Maximum five bullets. Maximum seven words per line. Count linking words too. “And that is why we found that” is almost the whole limit and still says nothing.

Fewer is allowed. Zero bullets too, if a sentence is enough. Inflating to five fillers is the same mistake as five memes. Font size must not drop so more words fit. More words banned. You shorten.

Klára put under the sentence eight bullets of twelve words from a textbook. From the back, mush. The teacher asked her to read. She read. Marek left three bullets of five words. The sentence at the top carried the meaning. The bullets only anchored. The class waited for his voice, because on the wall there was nothing left to read. After the lesson Klára crossed out the sixth, seventh, eighth and shortened the rest. Long sentences she put into 메모s under the slide. She said a dot excused her. It did not. A dot does not make a paragraph an anchor. Marek showed her how to count words out loud including linking words.

Five times seven is a ceiling, not a task to fill

Maximum five bullets, maximum seven words. Fewer is allowed. Zero bullets too, if a sentence is enough and a picture later. Inflating to five fillers is banned.

Click into the slide body with layout Title and body. A bullet turns on on its own, or Format → Bullets. Write short. Enter the next. If you have a sixth, Backspace and merge ideas, or a new slide in the outline. Body size 24 to 28, not 14 so more words fit.

Seven words you can read from the back in one look. Fifteen is already an eye track that steals ears. Ears should get speech. Eyes an anchor. An anchor short. A long one is Word. Word has other lessons.

복사ing from the web brings long lines and a foreign font 11. Always Format → Clear formatting and write again in your words into the limit. A foreign bullet is foreign work, even if it is short.

Wrong: “A wagon fort was a tactical element that enabled effective defence against cavalry in open terrain.” That is a paragraph with a dot. A dot does not excuse it.

Right: “Wagons held better than a wall.” Five words. The rest into notes and into the mouth. Marek. Klára after crossing out the same. The teacher sees an anchor. They hear the explanation.

An example from a hobby: not “I ride a bike every day after school with friends to the park.” That is twelve words. Right: “After school I pedal to the park.” The rest you say. The wall anchors. If you paste font 11 from the web, Format → Clear formatting and write the anchor again at size 28.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

Shorten bullets to five times seven

One slide. Write more, then cut to five times seven. Font size must not drop so more fits.

1. Open a slide with a sentence at the top. Click into the body of layout Title and body. Write six long bullets from a notebook on purpose. Let it hurt. Step back. That is the state the limit bans. Clear the format if small type came from the web: Format → Clear formatting.

2. Delete the sixth and more. At each remaining one count words. Over seven cross out linking words and extras. Goal: five or fewer, seven or fewer. Body size 28. If it will not fit, you shorten words, not size.

3. In PowerPoint almost the same: Home → Bullets and size. Enter a new line. Shift+Enter only if you must wrap the same bullet — better shorten. Present (F5), step back. Can you read all anchors in one look? No? Cut more.

4. 복사 leftover sentences into 메모s under the slide. There a longer hint may be. On the area not. The area has a limit. 메모s have a notebook. Do not mix them.

5. Saving watches on its own on Drive. Go through the other outline slides and where you see a wall of text, repeat shortening. The workshop ends when no slide has more than five times seven. Fewer I take. More no. On paper by the monitor write 5×7.

A dot is not a pardon

A paragraph with a bullet is still a paragraph. The limit holds on words, not on a dot.

1. Find the longest bullet and shorten it under seven words.

2. Delete a sixth bullet, or move it onto a new slide in the outline.

3. Clear formatting copied from the web and write anchors again in your words.

2. No bullet has more than seven words.
3. Body type did not drop under 24 so more text would fit.
