The hand must hurt more than Ctrl+C
复制-paste is fast and treacherous. You paste a tone that is not yours, you paste a hallucination, you paste a word a teacher can google as AI. A note is a shortened sentence in your hand: subject, core, source. Three commas. Not a paragraph. When you write by hand, the brain chooses. When you paste, the brain sleeps. Curious trains a note after three questions from last time. You open a notebook, not a document to hand in. You may have chat next to you, but you only rewrite what already sits in a book. What is not in a book does not go into notes. Even if it sounded clever. Cleverness without a page is stuffing.
Ema selects the whole answer and pastes it into Word. Adam looks: “Will you hand that in?” Ema: “No, those are notes.” Adam: “Those are someone else’s paragraphs.” Ema deletes it. She takes a lined notebook. From question 1 she writes: “Vltava → Elbe (geography p. 41).” From question 2 three cities from an atlas. From question 3 dam = protection and energy, in words from the chapter. The hand hurts. The head remembers. The next day she can say the report without reading Word. A neighbour reads pasted text and stumbles on a word she never said. 复制 did not protect her. 备注s protected Ema.
The seven-word rule. One note has up to seven words + a page. When it has more, you shorten, you do not paste.
A rewrite is a filter. A paste is a pipe.
Filter: a hallucination falls out, because you cannot shorten it from a book. Pipe: everything flows through. Teachers can spot a pipe. Even if they cannot, you build work from someone else’s vocabulary and then cannot defend it. When you learn paraphrase in Helper, it will still be a filter, not a pipe. Today the filter is harder: seven words. A source. A full stop. On a computer, when you must write electronically, switch off the clipboard by writing in a notebook first. Only then, from notes, a fair copy. A fair copy from notes is yours. A fair copy from chat is someone else’s.
Question: Where does the Vltava flow into?
A bad note (copy): a whole paragraph about a basin, tributaries and river lyrics.
A good note: “The Vltava flows into the Elbe — Geography 6, p. 41.”
A second good one: “Prague, Č. Budějovice — atlas p. 12.” (cities you really saw on a map)
A table:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+C from chat | an AI tone, a risk of a lie |
| 7 words + a page | your head, a source |
| a paraphrase from a book | prep for Helper |
Pasting into a school document and then “rephrasing” is still a pipe. 备注book first. Document second.
Why this right now
You are in the course Ask with Martin, level Curious. You work in a chatbot (ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude) — same game, different brand. No code. A parent or the school creates the account. A child’s email does not belong here.
This is not the 发明家 level. There you build a chatbot on your own website. Here you are a user: a question, a check, a citation.
You will know this lesson by one sentence: A note has seven words and a page. A paragraph from chat does not belong here. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have got the core. The rest is practice, not magic.
Tomorrow an outline. An outline from copy is a fake skeleton. An outline from notes is yours. Without today the Curious project would be only nicer water.
Four things you will build in this course
The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.
🏫 A report with citations
An outline, three sources that exist, and a sentence in your own words. AI must not be the only author.
Citations later stand on these notes with a page.
📝 Test training
Coach role: let it ask, do not let it say the answer. You count / answer yourself.
Coach: notes from your own answers, not a dump of questions.
📅 Family planner
Tasks for the week (not passwords, not marks). A parent sees the plan, not your chat.
Planner: seven words per task, not an essay.
📜 An AI code for the class
Seven short rules on a poster. No horror — a how-to.
Code: “No pasting AI paragraphs into handing-in.”
Workshop: seven words, three lines
You take yesterday’s three questions (or new ones). Chat may remind questions. 备注s go only by hand from a book.
-
Open a notebook on a clean page. A topic heading. No laptop with a document to hand in.
-
You have three questions. By each open a book. Write max seven words + a page. A 10-minute timer. You have no time to paste, you have time to write.
-
If you do not know a word, do not look in the chat for a paragraph. Look in the textbook glossary or ask a parent / tomorrow a teacher.
-
When you have three lines, only then may you ask chat: “Ask a fourth question for an analogy.” Write the analogy as an eighth line and mark it A, so it is not like a fact.
-
关闭 everything. Read three notes out loud. Are they your words? If you sound like an encyclopaedia, shorten more.
Practice: shorten the water
For each paragraph write a note of up to seven words + a made-up textbook page (as practice of the shape).
-
A long paragraph about photosynthesis with foreign words.
-
A paragraph about a river with an invented professor — what must not go into a note?
-
A paragraph that is an analogy with a kettle — how do you mark it so it is not a fact?
Now you 💪
Go through three checks. At each one tick in your head: can I see it, or not?
- In the notebook there are short lines, not a pasted dump.
- Each factual note has a page.
- An analogy is marked so it does not mix.
If something is missing, go back to the steps above. This is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on sure, not confused.
Check: Three notes by hand, up to seven words, with a page. No Ctrl+C into handing-in.
What to take from this lesson
- A rewrite is a filter. 复制 is a pipe.
- Seven words + a page.
- 备注book first, fair copy second.
- A hallucination fits worse into seven words from a book.
- A hand that writes remembers.
- The names in the examples (Ema, Adam) are made up. Do not put your number, email or photo here.
- Next lesson: When you can do this, go to the next lesson in the same level.
