Social engineering = a scam through the head, not through a hack
Social engineering sounds complicated. In plain language: someone manipulates you so you open the door yourself. They do not break the password. They tell you: “You are in trouble, quickly.” “Help a friend.” “Do not tell anyone.” “You are the only one who can.”
The goal is the same as with phishing: a password, money, a photo, a click. Only the path goes through feelings — fear, shame, love for a friend, wanting to win.
Signs of social engineering:
- rush — “right now”
- a secret — “do not tell your parents”
- authority — “I am from IT”, “I am a teacher”, “I am the police” — without checking
- help — “you will save my mark, just sign in”
- shame — “if you do not send it, everyone will laugh”
The method is still the same: pause → a parent / a teacher → I do not send, I do not click.
A real teacher and a real parent will wait until you ask a second adult. A scammer will say: “If you call, there will be trouble.”
Examples without scare stories
A classmate: “Lend the account, or I will get a five.” That is not your responsibility. “I do not lend it. Go to the teacher.”
A stranger in chat: “You are a chosen moderator, send your national ID number.” No. A parent.
“IT support”: “Say the password, we will fix the server.” A password not into the phone. A parent calls school officially.
Pressure with shame: “发送 a photo, or we will kick you out of the group.” Stop. Screenshot. An adult.
Why it works
Because you are normal. You want to help. You do not want trouble. That is good. A manipulator misuses that. Protection is not being cold. Protection is having a sentence and an adult.
What to say
“I do not click when it rushes and wants a secret. I am going to a parent.”
“I do not help through a password. I will help another way — a teacher, together.”
How it fits the projects
🏫 Campaign. Rush + a secret = ask an adult.
Family rules. You already have sentences — today the family says them out loud.
Safe checking — the next lesson: call a parent.
Now you 💪
Write three sentences against manipulation on paper (not in chat). Practise a scene with a parent: “Someone is rushing and wants a password.”
-
Three sentences on paper by the fridge.
-
One scene out loud with a parent — 30 seconds.
-
Into the campaign: Rush + a secret = stop.
Check: Social engineering = feelings + rush. A sentence + an adult. Help ≠ a password.
What to take from this lesson
- Manipulation through fear, shame, help.
- A secret from parents = a trap.
- Check authority outside chat.
- The same method: pause, an adult, I do not send.
