← Level 1 – Key keeper

A strong password is not a nickname + 1

A long sentence is better than “Martin2015”.

They guess a short password. Not a sentence.

A password is a key. A short key to every door is comfortable. It is also bad. When the key is short and it is about you, it can be guessed without magic. A name, a year, a dog, a kit number are enough.

You spot bad shapes immediately. A name plus a year. A nickname plus a one. Four of the same digit. The word password. A dog’s name. A date of birth. Those are the first things a program and a classmate “for a laugh” try.

Better is a sentence you remember. Not a sentence about school, a street, a team, a sibling. A sentence about something ordinary that is not about you. A colour, an animal, a verb, a number, a fruit. انضمامed with hyphens. Long. It has capital and small letters, if you can. It does not need lots of accents and at-signs — length wins.

You say that sentence out loud with a parent. Do not write it anywhere in chat, in a notebook on the desk, in a comment, on this page. A parent will save it — in the next chapter into a vault.

Why a sentence? Because you can say it. dragon1 is a short riddle. A sentence about what an animal does with fruit is a long key that you hold in your head.

⚠️

Each service a different password. If one leaks from some game, it should not open school. The same password everywhere is one key to every door. المدرسة separate. Game separate. البريد الإلكتروني separate, if you have one.

What a password is not

Go through this like a list on the fridge. If your password fits any line, it is not تم.

This is not a list of how to crack a password. It is a list of what to avoid when you invent one. Same as leaving the key to the flat off the doormat.

How to invent a sentence with a parent

You sit at the table. The phone is aside. Nobody is filming it.

  1. A parent proposes the first bit (a colour or an animal that is not yours).
  2. You propose a verb (what that animal does).
  3. You add a number that is not a year of birth.
  4. You add a fruit or a thing from the kitchen.
  5. You join them with hyphens. You say it out loud twice.
  6. A parent saves it where passwords live. You remember the sentence. It does not go into a notebook.

If you forget the sentence, a parent has it. That is why it is not in chat. Chat gets forwarded. A vault does not.

If school sets the password for you and you cannot change it to a sentence, leave it. Use what school gave you, and save it in the vault. Keep the sentence for things where you choose the password: a game, email, family services.

💡

You do not test a password by writing it to a friend “guess”. Not as a quiz in class. Not into a shared document. If you want to show you can do a sentence, say only: “I have a long sentence, it is not about me, each service a different one.” That is enough.

What to say when someone wants your password

A classmate: “Tell me the password, I will just look at the homework.”

“I do not lend the school account. Ask the teacher for access.”

A game / a message: “Verify the account, type the password here.”

“I type a password only on a page I open myself. I will show this message to a parent.”

A friend: “Let’s use the same password so we remember.”

“Each person has their own. The same password is one key for two people.”

Someone: “إرسال a screenshot of the sign-in.”

“I do not screenshot a password. If it is you, it can wait.”

You can have these sentences in your head like a reflex. You do not have to be rude. You have to be clear.

Why not “complicated” symbols instead of length

Adults sometimes say: you must put an at-sign, a capital letter, a number, an exclamation mark. For you something else matters more. A short password with an exclamation mark they still guess, if it is about you. A long sentence holds, even if it is made of ordinary words that are not about you.

You may use accents and dots when the vault remembers them for you. When you type a password from your head at school, a sentence without extra traps for fingers is kinder. Length still wins. A parent in the vault can have a longer and more complicated key. You at school a sentence you can say.

If a service rejects the password (“too few characters”, “a number is missing”), add a number that is not a year of birth, or a hyphen. Do not go back to the dog’s name. The rule stays: it is not about you, it is not short, it is not the same as elsewhere.

When someone sees the password or finds it in chat, you do not measure blame. You measure the speed of the change. A parent, the vault, a new sentence. The old sentence is no longer a key. It is a postcard someone else has read.

How it fits the projects

🏠 Family rules. One sentence on paper: A password is a sentence. Each service a different one. A password is not sent. Read it out loud. It holds for parents too: your password does not belong on their Facebook “so we do not forget it”.

📱 Phone audit. When you are in settings, ask: does the phone save passwords into notes named “passwords”? If yes, next time you will move them into a vault. Today it is enough to know that a note in the phone is not a vault.

🏫 Campaign. On the poster belongs: A long sentence > a nickname + 1. Not fifteen rules. One sentence a classmate can read from their desk.

Now you 💪

With a parent, invent one sentence for the school account (or for a service where you may change the password). Say it out loud. Do not write it anywhere in chat, in a notebook on the desk or on this page. A parent will save it — in the next chapter into a vault.

  1. Check the old password: is it a name, a year, a dog, a kit? If yes, it is time for a sentence.

  2. Build the sentence at the table. Twice out loud. No writing in a visible place.

  3. Add that one sentence about passwords to family rules. Not the password itself. The rule.

Check: A password is a sentence, not a nickname. It is not in a screenshot or in a group. المدرسة and a game do not have the same key.
