Quick fill of a series

Days, numbers and patterns — drag the square smartly.

The square can do more than a copy

You already know: one cell 1 dragged down → a copy of ones. Two cells 1 and 2 dragged → series 1, 2, 3, 4…

Sheets looks for a pattern. When it understands the pattern, it fills a series. When not, it copies.

💡

After dragging, in the corner a small Autofill icon. Click — it offers copy or create a series. If it fills nonsense, choose Fill series.

Numbers 1 to 10

  1. Sheet ملاحظةs. C1 1, C2 2. Select C1:C2.

  2. Drag the square to C10. You have 1…10.

  3. If everywhere 1, you selected only C1. Try again with C1:C2.

Weekdays again — faster

  1. Pocket A2 Mon, A3 Tue. Select A2:A3.

  2. Drag to A8. Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun.

  3. A Czech account: po, út → po…ne. Not a mistake.

Odd numbers — step 2

D1 1, D2 3. Select both. Drag to D6. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11.

Months

E1 January. Drag to E4. January, February, March, April.

⚠️

A double-click on the square fills down to neighbouring data. When nothing is next to it, it fills thousands of rows. Ctrl+Z. Today rather drag with the mouse to a specific row.

Survey — numbering answers

  1. Survey. Next to snacks in column C: C3 1, C4 2 — answer order.

  2. Or in column A you already have text — in column D numbers 1, 2, 3 for a chart later.

🏫 Grade average One sheet, two columns: subject and grade. At the bottom a sum and an average.
💰 Pocket money Rows = days, columns = income / spend / left.
📊 Class survey One question, answers in one column, later a chart.
🏆 Mini dashboard Three numbers at the top and one chart. Numbers as a link, not copied by hand.

Now you 💪

  1. You filled 1–10 from two pattern cells.
  2. Seven days on Pocket without typing each day by hand (or you fixed the pattern Mon+Tue).
  3. You tried an odd series 1, 3, 5 by dragging.
  4. You know that one cell = a copy, two cells = a series.
  5. After a bad drag Ctrl+Z or the Autofill menu.

Check: You fill a series with the square. You do not tap days and numbers one by one.
