A week vs. a month

The same pocket money looks different in seven days and in thirty. Time changes the balance in the head.

Seven days is not thirty

Pocket money of 100 Kč for a week is not the same as 100 Kč for a month. The number is the same. Time is not. Who mixes that up spends monthly tokens the first Friday and then lives off “lend me”. The course teaches a calendar, not a morality of being modest.

A week has seven snack temptations. A month has more. The decision “juice today” multiplies. The balance takes it quietly.

Sofie gets 80 Kč every Monday. Matyáš 80 Kč once a month. Sofie spends 70 on Monday and waits a week. Matyáš spends 70 on Monday and waits four weeks. The same mistake. A different pain.

Matyáš shouts that Sofie is richer. She is not. She has another rhythm. A ranking from a weekly and a monthly number with no time is a lie. Sofie knows that and does not brag “I have eighty every week” in class — privacy again.

💡

Before you spend, ask: until when does this number have to last? Until Friday? Until the next pocket money? Until a trip in three weeks? Without “until when”, every amount is a daily one.

The rhythm of tokens

A parent chooses the rhythm. You do not put it down. Weekly pocket money teaches a short cycle. Monthly teaches a longer breath. Both paths work. The bad path is “I take it as daily”, whatever the rhythm is.

When you want to compare, convert to the same time. 80 a week is roughly four times 80 a month. That is not a call to ask for four times. Those are glasses, so you do not compare pears with bricks. And still you do not say it out loud as a ranking.

Spending has a rhythm too. A subscription is monthly, even if you click once. A snack is almost daily. A game “only now” pretends time does not exist. It exists. The balance at the end of the period is the referee.

A notebook may have a weekly total. The total is a servant. It says: in seven days 90 left and 80 came. The balance fell. That hurts in time, not only “somehow in March”.

Sofie wants to shorten it to “it will be fine somehow”. Matyáš asks what the lesson A week vs. a month is for, when a table can do a sum. A sum does not count respect, a PIN, a trap or an envelope. The core is: The same number in another time is not the same pocket money.

Adults pay the rent. The card, the account and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Pocket-money numbers do not belong on the network. If you break these rules in the lesson “A week vs. a month”, you know a word, not the course.

البداية 0. Income Monday 100 (a week). Spending Mon–Fri: 20, 20, 20, 20, 30 = 110. Balance −10 does not work in a pocket. Sofie owes 10 or forgot the start. Time showed that a daily twenty will not carry a week.

Matyáš: 200 for a month. He wants 50 a week for a game. 50 × 4 = 200. For food from pocket money 0 is left. A decision: a game, or a reserve for a snack. Time multiplied it. A mood in week 1 will not hide that.

⚠️

Do not force a parent to change the rhythm because a classmate gets it another way. Rhythm is a family map. You may ask for a change in peace. Pressure “everyone gets it weekly” is a ranking.

Why this right now

You are in the course Money with Martin, level Cashier. You can write numbers in a notebook or a table, but the topic is money and decisions, not Excel formulas. The account, the card and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Do not put pocket-money numbers on the network.

This is not the Sheets with Martin course. A table may help, but the mark of success is a decision, not SUM.

You will know this lesson by one sentence: The same number in another time is not the same pocket money. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have the core. The rest is practice, not magic.

Envelopes and a goal of 200 Kč need “until when”. Without time a goal is only a wish. With time it is a plan, even a small one.

Four things you will build from the course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.

🪙 Pocket money

A 14-day record: income, spending, balance. What you do not write down is as if you did not spend it — and that is a lie.

14 days are two weeks. You will see whether Monday eats both.

🚌 Class trip

A budget, a reserve, a plan B. A shared till has rules.

A trip in a month: weekly pocket money has to stack, not “somehow”.

🎮 Game shop

V-bucks and a loot box are a purchase. A subscription keeps going.

A game subscription is monthly spending. A weekly notebook has to carry it.

🧾 Stall / mini-company

Cost, price, profit. Three numbers for the class.

A stall for one day has another time than pocket money for a month. Do not mix balances.

Workshop: until when does this number live?

Find out your rhythm. If you have no pocket money, take a practice 100 Kč for a week — as a game on paper, not as a right.

  1. Write: how much (if you know) and until when. With no amount write only the rhythm: week / month / I don’t have it.

  2. Pick one spend you like to repeat. How many times does it fit into the rhythm before the balance dies?

  3. One sentence: “Until when does this have to last?” Say it before the next machine.

  4. Do not compare rhythm with a classmate out loud. Keep the glasses for yourself and a parent.

You count when you can add “until when” to a number. If a number lives “forever”, it is not pocket money yet. It is a dream.

Practice: the same number, another time

Count in your head. It is not Excel. It is a calendar.

  1. 80 Kč a week vs. 80 Kč a month. Why is that not the same?

  2. Daily juice 25 Kč. How much is that in 7 days? Will 100 for a week carry it?

  3. Why does a subscription 99 Kč / month not belong in “only today”?

  4. Jakub wants to change the rhythm because “Tereza gets it more often”. What is wrong with the argument?

Now you 💪

Go through three checks. By each one, tick in your head: do I see it, or not?

  1. I can add “until when” to pocket money.
  2. I do not compare a weekly and a monthly number as a ranking.
  3. I can multiply repeated spending by time.

If something is missing, go back to the steps above. It is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on with certainty, not with a mess.

Check: On paper there is a rhythm and one repeated spend multiplied by a week.
