A duplicate slide

A duplicate is the start of a copy. It is not five versions of the truth.

The grid already sits. Today you copy it so you do not build sizes again. A duplicate slide copies layout and hierarchy. It copies mistakes too. So use it when a slide holds, and rewrite the title at once.

Imagine proof 1 done: a sentence, three bullets, 40/28, air, lines. Proof 2 needs the same shape and a different sentence. Ctrl+D (or Slide → Duplicate slide). A copy appears under it. Rewrite the title at once. Fix the body.

If you leave the copy identical, delete it. Identity of two slides is a mess in the outline. Duplicating five times and changing only a dot is a snake. The class sees the same over and over. The bell in copy number three.

The number of slides holds an outline of eight, not a snake of copies. A parent or the school holds the account. No child’s email. If there are more copies than ideas, delete thumbnails, do not write filler. Paper from the first lesson next to the screen shows at once which copy is a snake.

Klára duplicated a slide five times and changed only a dot. The class saw the same over and over. The bell hit her in copy number three. Marek duplicated once, rewrote the proof 2 sentence, left the same type and alignment. A saving of the grid, not a saving of an idea. In the evening Klára deleted four copies and left one with a new sentence. She counted thumbnails: eight. The paper sat. She said Ctrl+D is fast. Fast is when you rewrite the title. Otherwise it is a snake. She counted eight thumbnails. Paper from the outline sat. Dad held the account. Copies three to five went off.

You copy a shape, not an idea

Click the thumbnail on the left. Ctrl+D, or Slide → Duplicate slide. Rewrite the title-sentence at once. Fix the body to a new proof. The five times seven limit holds. Hierarchy 40/28 holds. Air holds. The grid holds. What changes is the sentence and the anchors.

If you leave the copy identical, Slide → Delete slide. Identity of two slides is a mess. An outline has eight anchors, not eight copies of one.

Do not duplicate the whole presentation File → Make a copy every evening “just in case”. One truth. A backup is a parent’s folder, not five files final2.

Ctrl+D is a saving of craft. It is not a permit for a snake. After a duplicate Present (F5) at once from the slide before the copy. Arrow on. Are they two ideas, or the same twice? The same twice delete. An outline has eight anchors, not eight copies of one sentence. After a duplicate rewrite the title at once. Delete identity of two slides.

Wrong: five the same titles “Proof”, under them almost the same bullets, one word changes. The class thinks the projector stuck.

Right: Marek. A copy. A new sentence “A chalice was a sign, not only a cup.” The same type, the same lines. A saving. A new idea.

An example from a hobby: a slide about a chain and a slide about brakes. The same shape. Different sentences. A duplicate yes. Two the same slides about a chain no. File → Make a copy of the whole presentation every evening a snake too. One truth in a parent’s folder. The name at the top with no final2. One.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

Duplicate and rewrite the title at once

You take a done slide. Ctrl+D. At once a new sentence. An identical copy you forget to rewrite, you delete.

1. Click a done slide with a sentence and bullets in the limit. Thumbnail on the left. Ctrl+D. A copy appears under it. A parent’s or the school’s account.

2. At once click into the title on the copy. Delete the old sentence. Write a new proof sentence with a verb. Do not leave two the same titles. Fix the body. The 5×7 limit holds.

3. In PowerPoint almost the same: thumbnail on the left, Ctrl+D, rewrite the title at once. Line up the order by dragging the thumbnail. An identical copy you forgot to rewrite, Slide → Delete slide. The number of slides holds an outline of eight, not a snake of copies.

4. Present (F5) from the slide before the copy. Arrow on. Are they two ideas, or the same twice? The same twice delete. Two ideas keep.

5. Drive watches saving. On the left count thumbnails. Do they sit on paper from the first lesson? If there are more than eight, delete copies, do not invent filler. The workshop ends with one copy with a new sentence, or none if there was no new sentence.

A snake, or a saving

A duplicate with no new sentence is a snake. You delete a snake. You keep a saving.

1. Find two the same titles. Rewrite one, or delete the slide.

2. Count thumbnails. More than eight? Delete copies that do not add an idea.

3. Say out loud how the copy differs from the original. If you do not know, it is a snake.
