System updates

Updates are not a nuisance. They close holes.

Updates close holes

Updates of the phone and apps fix bugs and security holes. A hole = a path malware or an attacker can misuse. An old system = more holes.

It is not a nuisance from parents. It is maintenance — like pumping up a tyre on a bike. If a parent says “do not put off an update”, they are right.

What to update:

💡

Switch on automatic app updates if a parent agrees. The system better in the evening on a charger with Wi-Fi at home — not in the middle of a school test.

Method

  1. iPhone: Settings → General → Software Update. Check if there is a waiting update.

Android: Settings → System → System update (the name differs).

  2. App Store / Google Play → Updates → update apps you use. Not all at once an hour before sleep — pick important ones (a parent’s bank no, a game yes).

  3. Into the phone audit: Last system update — date. Automatic app updates — yes/no.

A big system update — with a parent. A photo backup before (Guard deals with that). A charger + Wi-Fi at home.

What to say at home

To a parent:

“I will check app updates today. We will leave the system together in the evening, if something is waiting.”

Into family rules: We do not put off updates without a reason. A big system one — together.

⚠️

A school-managed phone or クロムbook school updates. Do not touch a company/school device without a teacher.

Now you 💪

Open the app store. Update three apps you use the most.

Check if the system is waiting for an update. Write it into the audit.

Check: You know why updates. Three apps updated. The system checked with a parent or written down.
