The password for a payment: a parent

A PIN, Face ID and a shop on the phone are watched by an adult. You are not the family’s cashier.

A payment password is not your game

A payment has a lock. A PIN, a fingerprint, a face, a password into a game shop. The lock belongs to a parent, even if you hold the phone sometimes. It is not distrust. It is the same as a key to the flat: it is not lent for the school toilets and it is not solved with a quiz in class.

This lesson is short in the head and long in practice. In one sentence: I am not the cashier of the account. When a game asks for a parent’s password, it is not a quest. It is stop.

Adam is playing. The shop wants “Ask to Buy” or an Apple / Google password. Ema advises: “Type the password, I know it from last year.” She does not know. She guesses. After three tries the account locks. In the evening a parent sorts a lock, not a skin.

Another time a friend: “Just tap the card, the PIN is 1234, I saw it yesterday.” Adam should say no before the numbers come. Seeing a PIN is an accident you do not brag about. Repeating it is theft, even if you are “just trying”.

💡

When the screen wants a password for a payment, hand the phone to a parent. Do not play the middle person. Do not copy. Do not shout the password across the room. A parent types it, or the purchase does not happen. Both options are fine.

The lock and who may hold the key

An account, a card and an app shop are doors to the family’s tokens. A child’s email does not belong here as “your own till”. When school or a parent give an account, an adult still watches it. You may have a profile in a game. A profile is not a card.

Ask to Buy, family sharing, a limit on a card — those are brakes. A brake is not a punishment. A brake is design. Who turns a brake off “so it is faster” turns protection off. The course does not teach you to get around a brake. It teaches you to leave it on and say: I will wait.

A classmate who knows “the whole family’s PIN” is not an expert. They are a risk. A PIN is changed when it leaked. A parent does that at the bank, not you in chat. You report: “Someone saw the screen.” No stories, no mockery.

A Wi-Fi password is not a payment password. A school password is not a shop password. Mixing locks is comfortable and wrong. Each door its own key. A parent holds the keys to money.

Ema wants a pack for 79 Kč. Phone: enter password. Ema: “Mum, here.” Mum reads the price out loud. Says no. Ema is angry and honest. The purchase did not happen. The account stayed whole. That is a success of the lesson, not a failure of the game.

Adam sees dad leave an ATM. The screen is still on. Adam does not look at the number. He says: “It’s still on.” Dad comes back. No prize for heroics. Just a door that closed in time.

⚠️

Never type a PIN “for a parent, they wanted it on the phone”. A scam can copy a voice. A parent you can see approves a payment, not a voice from a mobile. If you are not sure, hang up and say it at home at the table.

Why this right now

You are in the course Money with Martin, level 準備. You can write numbers in a notebook or a table, but the topic is money and decisions, not Excel formulas. The account, the card and the PIN belong to a parent. A child’s email does not belong here. Do not put pocket-money numbers on the network.

This is not the Sheets with Martin course. A table may help, but the mark of success is a decision, not SUM.

You will know this lesson by one sentence: The lock for a payment belongs to a parent. You hand over the phone, you do not guess the password. When you can say it to a parent or a teacher, you have the core. The rest is practice, not magic.

Without a lock, a coin, a card and a phone are only wrappers. With a lock you know who may say yes. Banker will unfold this. 準備 has to say it out loud before the first “just tap it”.

Four things you will build from the course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only what this lesson can do.

🪙 Pocket money

A 14-day record: income, spending, balance. What you do not write down is as if you did not spend it — and that is a lie.

Pocket money in coins does not need a card lock. Pocket money by card does — and a parent holds the lock.

🚌 Class trip

A budget, a reserve, a plan B. A shared till has rules.

A shared trip till is not paid with your PIN. An adult pays, or agreed cash.

🎮 Game shop

V-bucks and a loot box are a purchase. A subscription keeps going.

A game shop with no parent password is red. It is not lag, it is a trap or a bad setting.

🧾 Stall / mini-company

Cost, price, profit. Three numbers for the class.

A stall does not take “I’ll type mum’s PIN”. It takes coins, or a parent comes themselves.

Workshop: a sentence at the screen

You will practise one sentence. No trying a PIN. No writing a password in a notebook.

  1. Write yourself a sentence: “A parent types this.” Say it twice. It should sound boring.

  2. With a parent, show where a game would want a password (only a settings preview, no purchase). Who types it?

  3. Agree a signal: when you want to buy, you bring the phone. You do not shout a password across the living room.

  4. A list of where a password does not belong: chat, a notebook, a sticker on the phone, a friend “for a second”.

When the sentence can leave your mouth before fingers hit the keyboard, you count. If you started writing the password in a notebook “so I don’t forget”, cross it out. Remembering a password is not your job.

Practice: a key, or a quest?

For each situation say stop, or hand it to a parent. No third way “I can do it”.

  1. A game: enter an Apple / Google password. What do you do with the phone?

  2. A friend saw a PIN. They want you to try it at a machine. The answer?

  3. A voice on the phone: “I’m mum, say the code from the SMS.” Why not, even if it sounds familiar?

  4. Why does a payment password not belong in a school notebook or in a note in a game?

Now you 💪

Go through three checks. By each one, tick in your head: do I see it, or not?

  1. I can hand the phone to a parent, I do not guess the password.
  2. I tell a PIN and an SMS code to nobody.
  3. I know I am not the cashier of the family account.

If something is missing, go back to the steps above. It is not a test for marks. It is a safety net, so you go on with certainty, not with a mess.

Check: You have a boring sentence “a parent types this” and a list of where a password does not belong.
