A chart from a table, not a chat screenshot

A number on the wall is born from a table. A screenshot from chat is not a chart.

A chart is born from cells with numbers. A screenshot of waffle is not a number.

You can already filter a picture. Today a number. A number on the wall must come from a table you can open. A screenshot of chat, Stories or “lots of people said” is not a chart.

Imagine a snack poll. A WhatsApp screenshot looks fast. The teacher asks how many people and what question. You do not know. Waffle on the wall. If you make a column chart from three numbers in a table, the title is a sentence, the axis has a unit, the class sees proof.

Rule: Insert → Chart in Slides. Fill columns. Do not put a PNG of a chat screenshot. The chart title is a sentence, not Chart 1. The axis has a unit. You must be able to say where numbers are from.

Into the table do not put classmates’ names and marks unless the teacher wants that. A survey anonymously. Insert → Chart. Title a sentence, not Chart 1. The axis has a unit. Delete a chat screenshot.

Tereza inserted a printscreen of a poll from chat. The teacher asked how many people and what question. She did not know. Jonáš made a column chart from three numbers in a table, title a sentence, axis labelled. The class saw proof, not chat. In the evening Tereza deleted the screenshot and copied ticks into a table: roll 8, apple 5, bar 3. A chart jumped from that on its own. She said chat looked like data. It did not. Data are cells you can open. She copied ticks: roll 8, apple 5, bar 3. A chart jumped from cells. 学校 Workspace held the account. Chat died. Three numbers in cells lived. The axis had a unit. The chart title was a sentence, not “Chart”.

💡

Before you insert a chart, ask: can I open the table the numbers are from? If not, it is not a chart. It is a screenshot of waffle.

Cells first, columns after

A chart is a picture of numbers. Numbers live in a table. In Slides Insert → Chart. A small table opens. Into the first column categories, into the second counts. For example: roll, apple, nothing. Numbers that are true. Not made up.

Click the chart title and rewrite it to a sentence: what the number means. Not Chart 1. The axis has a unit: votes, pieces, kilometres. Delete a chat screenshot on the slide.

コピーing from Google Sheets works too, when you already have a table from the Spreadsheets course. Still holds: cells, not a screenshot. Under the chart later a source credit. Today at least your table.

Anonymously. No names by columns unless it is the teacher’s task. Under the chart later a source credit. Today at least an open table. A chat screenshot on the slide Delete. You must be able to say where numbers are from. A parent’s account. The axis has a unit. The chart title is a sentence.

Wrong: a PNG from Instastories “everyone said yes”. Teacher: how many, what question, who. A shrug.

Right: Jonáš. Three columns. Title “More kids snack on a roll than an apple.” Axis votes. Tereza after the fix the same from ticks in a table.

An example from a hobby: not a training screenshot from chat. A table: Monday 3 km, Wednesday 5, Friday 4. A chart from that. You can say where numbers are from. Chart title a sentence. Axis kilometres. Not a PNG from WhatsApp. Three cells are enough when they are true. The teacher asks how many and what question. Cells answer.

⚠️

Do not put classmates’ names and marks into a table unless the teacher wants that. A survey anonymously. No email in a column.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

🎯 A hobby in 5 slides

Five slides about something you like doing. One sentence about what it is. No paragraphs from your notebook.

Hobby: kilometres from a diary in a table, not a screenshot from chat with a mate.

📚 A report

Eight slides for school: a start, three proofs, an end. The title on every slide is a sentence, not “Slide 3”.

Report: a number from a textbook copied into a table, not a phone photo of a page.

📊 Survey results

A chart from a table (not a screenshot from chat) and under it where the numbers come from.

Survey: this is the heart of the project. A chart from ticks, not from WhatsApp.

⚖️ A defence

You say one sentence, show proof, answer “and what if…”. If you do not know, you say I don’t know.

Defence: a panel will ask where from. A table answers. A screenshot does not.

Insert a chart from a small table

You insert a chart. You fill two or three categories and numbers that are true. Title a sentence. You delete a chat screenshot.

  1. Open a slide with a sentence under a parent’s account. Insert → Chart. Pick columns. Fill two or three categories and numbers that are true. Not made up. Not friends’ names in columns.

  2. Click the chart title. Delete Chart 1. Write a sentence of what the number means. Check the axis: does it have a unit? If not, add it. A chat screenshot on the slide, if it is there, select and Delete.

  3. In PowerPoint almost the same: Insert → Chart, fill the sheet, title a sentence. Present (F5), step back. Can you read what the columns say? A smear? Make the chart bigger, or shrink the legend, so numbers live.

  4. Say out loud where the numbers are from. For example: ticks in class, 12 votes, yesterday. If you shrug, the numbers do not belong on the wall. Fix the table, or delete the chart.

  5. Drive watches saving. One chart per slide. Two charts compete. The workshop ends with a chart from cells and a sentence above it. Chat PNG is gone.

A screenshot, or cells

Every chat screenshot on a slide is suspicious. Cells are proof.

  1. Delete a chat screenshot, even if there are numbers in it.

  2. Rewrite the chart title from Chart 1 to a sentence.

  3. Tell a parent where three numbers are from. You do not know? Fix the table, or the chart off.

Now you 💪

  1. The chart was born from a table in Slides or from Sheets, not from a chat PNG.
  2. The chart title is a sentence and the axis has a unit.
  3. I can say where the numbers are from. In the columns there are no names without a task.

Done when: On the slide there is a chart from cells and a sentence of what the number means. A chat screenshot is gone.
