Numbers belong on the slide, the story in the speech

The wall holds a number and a source. The mouth carries the scene. The two layers should not duplicate.

A number on the wall. The story in the mouth. Not both the same.

The class can either read a number, or listen to a scene.

When you write the whole story on the wall and still read it, eyes and ears fight. When there is nothing on the wall and you pour numbers from your head, the back row catches the wrong figure.

The split is simple: number, unit, a short source credit on the slide. Scene, feelings, “how it was” in the mouth.

Do not copy onto the wall sentences you will say. Do not say out loud a long column of numbers the class can see.

Today you take one figure for the sentence and put it big on a slide. You leave the story in notes. No chart. A number as an anchor is enough.

Example: “about twenty, or thirty” in the speech and the whole rain on the wall. A mess. Better: on the slide “12 km · odometer”, with the mouth the chain and the rain. The teacher will remember both.

If you are not sure of the number, it does not belong on the wall. A screenshot from chat is not a number. You write the figure. Size 36 plus. The source under it. A pause on the number, then the scene.

Ema wrote the whole rain story on the slide and into the speech poured “about twenty kilometres, or thirty”.

Adam on the slide “12 km · odometer”, with the mouth rain and chain. The teacher remembered twelve and the scene. With Ema they remembered a mess.

Ema had more words. Adam had a split. The split won. After the lesson Ema deleted the story from the wall and left the number. She found that the class finally hears the rain, because they are not reading it. Reading the story killed the story. Writing the number saved the number.

💡

If you are not sure of the number, it does not belong on the wall. Say “I don’t know exactly” with your mouth, or skip the figure. A made-up figure on the wall hangs longer than a word.

Two channels, one goal

The wall is good for an anchor: a number, a unit, a year, a source name in one line. The mouth is good for time, cause, emotion, the order of actions.

Wrong: a story paragraph on the wall plus reading. Wrong: five numbers in a row out loud, the class cannot keep up.

Right: one or two figures on the slide title-size, the source under them smaller but with contrast. The speech mentions the number, does not repeat it ten times.

Where the figure is from: an odometer, a teacher, a table, a book, your own counting. On the wall write where from, shortened. Without where-from the figure is decoration.

A story never as a paragraph on the area. A number never only in mumbling. Eyes catch 12. Ears catch rain. The brain builds the sentence.

A screenshot from chat is not a number. A number is written by you, big, clean. The sentence decides. The number serves it. The story too. They do not shout over each other.

Adam: slide “12 km · odometer”, with the mouth the chain. Ema after the fix: deleted the rain paragraph, left 12, said the rain.

The teacher asked where 12 was from. Adam showed the credit. Without a credit he would have shrugged.

“A lot” and “almost everyone” is not a number. It is a story in disguise. A disguise not on the wall.

You do not have to have a number in a hobby. You do have to, when you have a number, put it where the class will see it. On the wall certainty, or nothing. “About twenty” is fog. Fog does not belong here.

⚠️

Do not copy a table from chat as a picture and pretend it is a number. Chat is not a source. Write the number. 名前 the source in words a teacher can carry.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

🎯 A hobby in 5 slides

Five slides about something you like doing. One sentence about what it is. No paragraphs from your notebook.

Hobby: one figure big, the scene in the mouth.

📚 A report

Eight slides for school: a start, three proofs, an end. The title on every slide is a sentence, not “Slide 3”.

Report: a year on the wall, the battle story with the mouth.

📊 Survey results

A chart from a table (not a screenshot from chat) and under it where the numbers come from.

Survey: a chart and a number, not a screenshot of chat waffle.

⚖️ A defence

You say one sentence, show proof, answer “and what if…”. If you do not know, you say I don’t know.

Defence: proof to see, argument to hear. The same split.

One figure on the wall, the scene down

You pick a figure you can carry. Big on the slide with a source. The story from the wall into notes and into the mouth.

  1. From the sentence and the scene pick one number that is true. On paper the figure, the unit, where from. If it is not true, skip the number today and go only with a clean story in the mouth. Do not lie for the workshop.

  2. Open the original. A middle slide or a new one in the budget: Title and body layout. Title a sentence or an anchor. Body only the figure size 36 plus. Under it a source line, type 18–24, contrast. No rain paragraph. Rain Ctrl+X into notes.

  3. Clear the format if the figure came from the web. You write it. Present (F5). Step back. Can you read 12 without squinting? The source too? If the source vanishes, darken it, do not leave grey fog. In PowerPoint almost the same: size and colour on the Home bar.

  4. To the wall: a pause, a finger on the figure in your head, say the unit once, then the scene from notes. Do not repeat the number five times. Do not read the scene from the wall — it is not there any more. If you still read, the wall still has action. Delete the action.

  5. Save. Thumbnails: does the slide with the figure prove the sentence? Yes? Keep. No? Delete the figure, not the sentence. End of workshop: on the wall 12, in the notes rain.

A guess, or an anchor

“About a lot” is not a number. Either a figure with a source, or nothing on the wall.

  1. Find in the speech the word a lot, everyone, about and decide: a figure on the wall, or off.

  2. Delete from the wall scene sentences you say with your mouth.

  3. Write the source under the figure even if you and an odometer are the source.

Now you 💪

  1. On the wall there is no story paragraph.
  2. When there is a number, it is big, with a unit and a source.
  3. The mouth carries the scene and only mentions the number, does not read a table.

Done when: I have a split: a figure on the slide, a story in the speech, both sit on the sentence.
