Deepfake — an intro

A video or a voice can look like someone else.

Deepfake = a mask on a video or a voice

A deepfake is a video or audio that looks or sounds as if someone else is speaking — a celebrity, a teacher, a parent, a friend. A computer puts a face or a voice together. Sometimes it is a joke. Sometimes it is a scam or bullying.

For you a simple rule holds: a video is not proof that that person really said it. When a video in chat “says” something weird, check outside the video — call, ask at school, show a parent.

We will not make a deepfake. We will spot it — calmly, without hysteria.

💡

If a video pushes on rush, money, a photo or a secret from parents — it is the same trap as with SMS. A mask does not mean “believe it more”.

Signs of a suspicious video

It is not your job to be a detective. This is enough: “This is weird. I will check with a parent / a teacher.”

What a deepfake can misuse

A deepfake is not a reason not to talk to anyone. It is a reason to check important things outside chat.

What to say

“The video looks weird / it pushes on money. I am not clicking. I am calling a parent.”

“Someone sent a video where a teacher is supposedly speaking. I will check at school.”

How it fits the projects

Safe checking — the next lesson: call a parent.

🏫 Campaign. A video is pushing? Check outside chat.

Family rules. I do not deal with important things only from a video in chat.

Now you 💪

With a parent, read a description of deepfake (you do not have to watch manipulative content). Agree a password or a sentence: “When something is urgent, you will call me, not just send a video.”

  1. Family checking: urgent things = a call on a saved number.

  2. A sentence in the head: a video is not proof without checking.

  3. Into the campaign: Check outside chat — already a third scam sign.

Check: Deepfake = check outside the video. Rush = a trap. Important things = a call to a parent.
