SMS scams

A message from a bank, transport, “mum” — what to do.

An SMS can lie just like email

An SMS scam is a short message on the phone: “a parcel is waiting”, “the account is blocked”, “mum is not on this phone”, “you won”, “pay a fee”. It looks trustworthy. The sender can be a stranger. A link in the SMS leads to a fake page that wants a password or a card.

Signs of an SMS scam:

The rule: I do not click an SMS. If it looks important, I call a parent on a number you have saved — not on the number from the message.

⚠️

You do not read an SMS code to anyone. A scammer sends an SMS “verification” and then calls: “say the code.” A code = a key. A parent will deal with it. You do not say a code into the phone to a stranger.

Typical traps

A parcel / transport. “Pay 29 Kč.” A parent knows the orders. Ask a parent, do not click.

A bank. Children usually do not have an account on their own — if they do, a parent calls the bank from the official number on the website, not from the SMS.

“Mum from a stranger’s number.” “I am in hospital, send money.” Call mum on her saved number. Do not answer the scammer.

A prize. If you did not enter a draw, you did not win. That holds from Hunter lesson 2.

💡

A screenshot of the SMS before deleting. Then a parent. Deleting without proof = harder to help. Block the number only after showing an adult.

What to say

“An SMS with a link arrived. I am not clicking. Can you look at it?”

“Someone wants an SMS code. I am not reading it. According to the course it is a scam.”

How it fits the projects

🏠 Family rules. I do not click an SMS with a link. I do not send an SMS code.

📱 Audit. Saved parent numbers — not a stranger’s number from a message.

🏫 Campaign. An SMS is rushing? I call a parent, I do not click.

Now you 💪

With a parent, go through an example of an SMS scam (a teacher, the internet “example of a phishing SMS” — not a live scam). Find rush and a link.

  1. Three signs on paper: rush, a link, a secret.

  2. Checking: call a parent on a saved number — practise the sentence.

  3. A sentence about SMS into the rules.

Check: I do not click an SMS. I do not read a code to strangers. Checking = a parent on a saved number.
