A new presentation, a file name

Untitled is how you lose the work before you hand it in.

Tên the file at once. Not when it is finished.

A new presentation starts with two clicks and one name. Anyone can do the clicks. Almost nobody does the name.

Untitled, Presentation 2 and Sao chép (1) are why you search Drive the night before a report and shout.

On the other side the teacher gets a link and sees the same: chaos. The formula is boring, and that is why it works: subject, topic, your name.

The cloud saves on its own. A name does not invent itself.

Example: Adam had seven Untitled files and at the board he opened the jokes. Ema wrote History-hussites-Ema and found the work in two seconds.

A file you cannot name is not work yet. It is a sketch that vanishes in a pile. Today you click Untitled at the top as soon as the first slide appears. Formula: subject, topic, your name. Enter. Then you will find it on Drive.

Adam had seven Untitled files on Drive. In one was a hobby, in another a history attempt, in a third jokes. In the morning he opened the wrong one. At the board there were jokes.

Ema had one file History-hussites-Ema. She found it with search in two seconds.

Adam went red and flipped through templates. The teacher waited. After the lesson Adam renamed everything. Two Untitled files were the same and one was empty. The time lost was bigger than five minutes at the start.

💡

Write the name as soon as the first slide appears. Not when “it is finished”. Finished often comes a minute before the bell and you skip the name again.

The file is named the way it is found

In Google Slides you click Untitled at the top and type. Enter. Drive search then finds a word from the name.

Formula: Subject-topic-Tên. Example: Civics-waste-Adam. No smileys. No word final_final2.

In the list of handed-in work the teacher sees whose it is without opening the file. That is manners. It is also a rescue when you have fifty school things on Drive.

You can rename any time: click the name at the top again, or on Drive right-click → Rename. The habit is at once. Later you forget.

Handle versions with one file, not a copy in chat. If you save to the desktop of a school PC and sign out, the file can vanish. That is why school often wants Drive.

Ema starts a report. Plus in Slides. First slide. She clicks Untitled, types Science-bees-Ema, Enter. On Drive she sees the file among school folders.

Adam puts Presentation 2 and sends himself a link in chat. In a week the chat scrolls away. Drive full of copies. The teacher gets Presentation 2 (1) from three people. They do not know whose is which.

Ema hands in one link. The name fits. That is not fussiness. That is a file being readable, just like type being readable.

⚠️

Do not save school work on someone else’s USB “for a second” and do not send the whole file into a group chat. You lose versions and sometimes privacy too.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

🎯 A hobby in 5 slides

Five slides about something you like doing. One sentence about what it is. No paragraphs from your notebook.

Hobby: Hobby-five-slides-name, not Gallery.

📚 A report

Eight slides for school: a start, three proofs, an end. The title on every slide is a sentence, not “Slide 3”.

Report: subject-topic-name, so the teacher in the dropbox knows it is you.

📊 Survey results

A chart from a table (not a screenshot from chat) and under it where the numbers come from.

Survey: Survey-question-class, so it cannot be mixed up with a hobby.

⚖️ A defence

You say one sentence, show proof, answer “and what if…”. If you do not know, you say I don’t know.

Defence: Defence-sentence-name. One file, not a copy in chat.

Create it and name it at once

The whole workshop is about the name. The slide content can stay empty today.

  1. Open slides.google.com under a parent’s or the school’s account. Click a blank presentation. Do not collect templates. You need a clean file that can carry a name.

  2. Click Untitled at the top. Delete it. Type Subject-practice-YourTên with no smiley. Enter. If you make a typo, click again and fix it.

  3. Open a new tab at drive.google.com. Type part of the name into search, for example practice. The file must pop up. If it does not, you are in a different account, or you did not hit Enter on the name.

  4. In PowerPoint almost the same: File → Save as, a folder a parent knows, not the Desktop of a school PC if it gets wiped in the evening. Đóng and open the file again from that place, so you know the path.

  5. If the first name was a joke, rename it to a serious one. Joke names are hard to search. End: one file, one clear name, it can be found.

The name counts only when you find it with the presentation tab closed.

  1. Đóng the presentation tab. Find the file only with Drive search.

  2. Write on paper the name formula for the next report in one subject.

  3. Rename an old Untitled file so it does not confuse you. An empty one you can delete.

Now you 💪

  1. The file is not called Untitled or Presentation 2.
  2. The name has the subject and my name.
  3. I can find the file with search, not only from an open tab.

Done when: You have a new presentation named subject-topic-name and you can find it on Drive.
