A stopwatch: 3 minutes

A stopwatch does not lie. Mood lies that you will still make it.

At school you often have three minutes for speech. Not five. Not “until I finish saying it”. Three. A stopwatch in a parent’s phone is the judge. When you overrun, the class and the teacher already listen to the bell, not you. The worst rescue is speeding into mush. Then nobody hears. The right rescue is a cut: delete a word, delete a slide, leave one sentence what it is about. Reading eats minutes. When you read bullets, time lies — you are slow and the class is already asleep. Today you measure the whole from the first slide to silence. The goal is two and a half to three minutes. Over three you cut. A question at the end and silence after it belong in the time. Thanks is a second, not a minute of a life story. A parent holds the account. You do not put a recording on the network. You measure at home by the door, not on a live stream. Sofie read eight slides in four minutes. One sentence what it is about she did not make, because the bell came at the second proof. Filip took five slides, a parent’s stopwatch, Present (F5). He made three minutes, a question and silence. After the lesson Sofie deleted two slides and shortened notes. Second measure: two minutes fifty. The sentence at the start and at the end made it. Time drives slides, not the other way

First you know how many minutes you have. Then you fit the number of slides and the length of your mouth. Five slides for three minutes is enough for a hobby and a short report. Eight slides with paragraphs do not fit into three minutes if you do not read — and you must not read. A parent’s phone, a Stopwatch app, no public live stream. Click Present (F5) from the first slide. Say the whole. Write the time. The space bar turns slides when you finish saying. In PowerPoint the same. When you are over the limit, open the slide that least serves the sentence, and delete it, or leave it only in notes. Count a question and silence into the time. When you read, measure again after deleting text from the slide. Your mouth is faster when it does not have to read a notebook. A parent’s account watches the file on Drive. After a cut save. Into notes of the first slide write the measured time. When a teacher changes the limit to five minutes, the same stopwatch, the same cut. Mood “I will still make it” does not belong in notes.

The same rule holds when a teacher gives five minutes. First a stopwatch, then the number of slides. Not the other way: first an album, then “I will somehow make it”. Try it on one hobby: five slides, a stopwatch, Present (F5). When you are at 3:40, delete the slide that least serves the sentence. Measure again. A number on paper is the workshop. A guess in your head is not.

Four things you will build in this course

The course has four small projects. You do not have to do them all at once. Today you add only this:

Measure the whole and cut

One stopwatch, one Present (F5), one write of the time. Then a cut in the file, not in tempo.

1. Ask a parent for a phone. Open Stopwatch. Open your file in Slides. At the top click Present (F5). A parent stands at the door and starts the stopwatch when you say the first word.

2. Say the whole from the first slide to silence. The space bar next slide when you finish saying. Esc. Write the time on paper next to the outline. Over three minutes? Mark the slide that falls first.

3. Esc into edit. Click that slide on the left in thumbnails. Delete, or delete text from the slide and leave two sentences in Ghi chús. Do not speed up practice. You cut content.

4. Present (F5) again. Goal under three minutes. Count a question and silence. Thanks is a second. In PowerPoint the same steps: Present (F5), space bar, Esc.

5. Leave the file saved on a parent’s Drive. Write the time into notes of the first slide: maybe 2:50. No child’s email. No sending a recording to classmates.

The truth of a stopwatch, not mood

Mood says you will still make it. A stopwatch says a number. Trust the number.

1. Write the first time and the second time after a cut. The second must be shorter, not faster mush.

2. Delete one slide that least serves the one sentence what it is about.

3. Tell a parent from the door how many minutes you have tomorrow at school. That number holds at home too.
